With two outs, a man on and his team down by a run in the bottom of the 14th, second baseman Wade Kirkland slugged a 2-run homer to give the RockHounds the walk-off win on Wednesday. And over his last 4 games for Midland, the utility infielder has now gone 10 for 20 with 2 home runs and 8 RBIs. Designated hitter Anthony Aliotti singled, doubled, homered, drove in 3 and scored twice for the Hounds. Starter Chris Jensen was strong, tossing 6 shutout innings, but he left with the game a scoreless tie. RHP Jonathan Joseph allowed 1 unearned run in the 7th and, with Midland up by two runs in the top of the 9th, RHP Seth Frankoff surrendered a 2-run homer to tie the game and send things to extra innings. LHP Omar Duran threw 3 scoreless frames in extras before catcher Beau Taylor took the mound and gave up the go-ahead run in the top of the 14th. But thanks to Kirkland’s blast, Taylor was able to pick up his 1st win for the RockHounds.

Starter Zach Neal allowed 3 runs while striking out 5 over 7 innings of work to take his 7th loss for the Sounds on Wednesday, while RHP Taylor Thompson tossed 1 scoreless inning in relief. Third baseman Brent Morel collected 3 hits, including a double, while shortstop Andy Parrino had a pair of hits and scored a run, and catcher Bryan Anderson singled in Parrino for the Sounds’ only run of the game.

With the game tied in the top of the 8th, right fielder Tyler Marincov singled in the winning run for the Ports on Wednesday. He then stole second and came around to score an insurance run on left fielder B.J. Boyd’s RBI single. Marincov also singled and scored Stockton’s first run in the 2nd, while shortstop Tyler Ladendorf went 0 for 5 with 2 strikeouts in his first rehab game for the Ports. Starter Raul Alcantara allowed 2 runs over 4 innings of work, while RHP Sam Bragg struck out 4 in 3 scoreless innings of relief to earn his 7th win, and RHP Ben Bracewell got the final three outs in the 9th to notch his 4th save for Stockton.

RHP Heath Fillmyer allowed just 1 run in 5 innings of work for his second straight start, but he still ended up suffering his 13th loss for the Snappers on Wednesday. Center fielder Justin Higley hit his 8th home run to provide the Snappers only run of the game, while outfielders Joe Bennie and Max Kuhn had a pair of hits apiece in the loss.
NEW YORK-PENN LEAGUE (Class-A Short-Season)

First Baseman Seth Brown

After being shut out in two games on Tuesday, Vermont scored just 1 run on 5 hits against Connecticut, but it was enough to win on Wednesday. First baseman Seth Brown doubled in second baseman Trace Loehr in the 3rd inning to provide the Lake Monsters only run of the game, while Loehr singled and walked twice in the win. Vermont pitchers shut out Connecticut on just 3 hits. This year’s 6th-round draft pick for the A’s, RHP Bowdien Derby, started things off with 3 shutout innings, while 7th-round RHP Kyle Friedrichs followed up with 3 scoreless frames of his own to earn his 1st win. Last year’s 10th-round pick, RHP Corey Miller, tossed a scoreless 7th, and converted catcher Ryan Gorton pitched a perfect 8th and 9th to pick up his 2nd save for the Lake Monsters.
ARIZONA LEAGUE (Rookie Short-Season)

On Wednesday, the AZL A’s managed to win in a walk-off in the bottom of the 11th without even recording a hit in the inning. Center fielder Mike Martin led off the inning by reaching on catcher’s interference. After right fielder Jean Carlo Rodriguez walked and Martin and Rodriguez were moved over on shortstop Eric Marinez’s groundout, third baseman Miguel Mercedes was intentionally walked to load the bases. A throwing error on catcher Robert Mullen’s ground ball then allowed the winning run to score for the A’s. Rehabbing outfielder J.P. Sportman and second baseman Carlos Hiciano each had a pair of hits and drove in a run. Starter Jordan Schwartz allowed 1 run in 2 innings of work, while RHP Xavier Altamirano gave up 4 runs in 5 innings of relief. RHP Dustin Hurlbutt surrendered the tying run in the top of the 9th, and LHP Victor Veliz picked up the win after tossing a scoreless 10th and 11th for the A’s.
