Shortstop Chad Pinder has wielded the big bat in Midland’s series against Frisco. After hitting 2 home runs on Tuesday, Pinder slugged a grand slam in the 2nd inning on Wednesday to stake the RockHounds to a big lead early in what would turn out to be a tight, 1-run game. And Pinder is now hitting .450 with 2 doubles, 3 home runs and 7 RBIs over his last 5 games. Catcher Bruce Maxwell singled in a run in the 2nd and then hit a 2-run homer in the 3rd. Starter Sean Manaea allowed 4 runs on 10 hits and 2 walks while striking out 7 over 6 innings of work to pick up his 2nd win for the RockHounds. Meanwhile, infielder Rangel Ravelo was promoted to Nashville, first baseman Anthony Aliotti was reassigned to the RockHounds, and RHP Tanner Peters was sent to the AZL A’s on a rehab assignment.

Wednesday’s game at Nashville was suspended due to rain after the top of the 1st inning with the Sounds down 3-0. Before the game, it was announced that infielder Rangel Ravelo had been promoted from Midland, first baseman Anthony Aliotti had been reassigned to the RockHounds and infielder Niuman Romero had been released.

After turning in two stellar starts since coming over from the Astros organization in the Scott Kazmir trade, RHP Daniel Mengden had a rough outing on Wednesday, allowing 7 runs, 5 earned, on 10 hits in just 3 2/3 innings or work to take the loss for Stockton. Third baseman Melvin Mercedes had a pair of hits, a walk, a stolen base and drove in Stockton’s first run of the game, while center fielder Brett Vertigan singled, doubled and scored a run, and third baseman Matt Chapman sat out his third straight game with a wrist injury.

RHP Joey Wagman had his second straight strong start for the Snappers, allowing just 1 run over 6 innings of work to earn his 5th win on Wednesday. LHP Jose Torres tossed 2 scoreless innings in relief, and RHP Koby Gauna got the final three outs in the 9th to notch his 3rd save. The Snappers scored 2 runs on just 2 hits on Wednesday. First baseman Max Kuhn singled in a run and stole a base for the Snappers.

Starter Kevin Duchene allowed 2 runs, 1 earned, over 3 innings of work, but it was RHP Dustin Driver who was impressive in relief. The 20-year-old allowed no hits and struck out 5 over 4 scoreless innings to earn his 1st win for the Lake Monsters. Designated hitter Nick Collins clubbed a 3-run homer in Vermont’s 6-run 1st, while left fielder Brett Siddall also singled in a pair in the 1st. Center fielder Seth Brown had 2 hits and a walk and drove in a run, and shortstop Richie Martin drew a pair of walks and singled in a run for the Lake Monsters.
ARIZONA LEAGUE (Rookie Short-Season)

Left fielder Luis Barrera tripled in a run in the 1st and then doubled in another run in the 7th for the A’s, while right fielder Robert Martinez singled, doubled and drove in a run. Shortstop Eric Marinez had a pair of hits and drove in the go-ahead run in the 4th, and center fielder J.P. Sportman had 2 hits and a walk and swiped a pair of bases for the A’s. Starter Boomer Biegalski, the A’s 14th-round draft pick this year, struck out 3 and allowed 1 run, on a home run, over 2 innings, while rehabbing RHP Jordan Schwartz tossed 1 scoreless inning in relief. RHP Tanner Peters picked up the win in his first rehab appearance with the A’s despite allowing 1 run in 1 inning of work. 18-year-old Venezuelan RHP Jesus Zambrano threw 3 scoreless frames, and RHP Xavier Altamirano got the final six outs for his 1st save on Wednesday.
