The Snappers used 5 home runs to snap their seven-game losing streak on Sunday. Left fielder Joe Bennie had a big day at the plate for Beloit, collecting 4 hits, including a pair of home runs, while driving in 3. Center fielder Justin Higley, catcher Iolana Akau and second baseman Gabriel Santana also homered for the Snappers. Starter Junior Mendez allowed 5 runs over 4 2/3 innings of work, while LHP Cody Stull tossed 2 1/3 scoreless innings in relief to earn the win, and RHP Carlos Navas got the final out in the 9th to notch his 2nd save.

RHP Zach Neal had a rough start for the Sounds on Sunday, surrendering 6 runs in the 1st inning, and he ended up allowing 7 runs over 4 2/3 innings to take his 5th loss, while LHP Phil Coke gave up another 4 runs in 2 1/3 innings of relief. Third baseman Brent Morel, who was recently signed to a minor league contract, singled and slugged a 3-run homer for the Sounds, while shortstop Andy Parrino had 3 hits, and first baseman Anthony Aliotti doubled in a run in the loss. Meanwhile, with LHP Felix Doubront’s addition to the A’s roster, RHP R.J. Alvarez was optioned back to Nashville.

RHP Parker Frazier had his first shaky start since joining the RockHounds, allowing 5 runs, 3 earned, on 6 hits and 4 walks over 5 innings of work to suffer his 1st loss on Sunday. Third baseman Ryon Healy hit a 3-run homer to briefly give the Hounds their only lead of the game in the bottom of the 4th, while right fielder Matt Olson singled, doubled and scored a run, and designated hitter Rangel Ravelo had a pair of hits and drove in a run for the RockHounds.

With two on and two outs in the top of the 7th, shortstop Yairo Munoz doubled to drive in both base runners and provide the Ports with their only runs of the night on Sunday. Starter Raul Alcantara allowed just 1 run over 4 innings of work but still ended up being saddled with the loss, while RHP Kyle Finnegan gave up 5 runs in 2 2/3 innings of relief for Stockton.

Starter Kyle Friedrichs allowed just 1 unearned run over 3 innings of work and left with the game a 1-1 tie on Sunday, but RHP Derek DeYoung gave up 2 runs in 1 inning of relief to take the loss, and LHP Kevin Ferreras allowed 4 more runs, 3 earned, in 3 innings for the Lake Monsters. Third baseman Ryan Howell hit his 3rd home run, while outfielder Seth Brown and designated hitter Brett Siddall each doubled and drove in a run for Vermont.

 

ARIZONA LEAGUE  (Rookie Short-Season)

Last year’s 4th-round draft pick for the A’s, RHP Jordan Schwartz, tossed 2 scoreless innings to start things off right on Sunday, but 19-year-old Panamanian LHP Jorge Martinez gave up 5 runs, 4 earned, in 1 1/3 innings of relief to suffer his 1st loss for the A’s. Catcher Brett Sunde doubled twice and scored a run in the bottom of the 9th, while second baseman Carlos Hiciano singled, doubled and scored, and center fielder J.P. Sportman went 1 for 3 in the first game of his rehab assignment in Arizona.
