LHP Barry Zito turned in another strong start for the Sounds, allowing just 1 run over 6 innings of work to earn his 7th win on Saturday. The veteran starter has been very consistent for Nashville over the past five weeks, posting an ERA of 3.00 in his last seven starts for the Sounds. RHP Taylor Thompson gave up 2 unearned runs on just 1 hit over 1 1/3 innings in his first rehab appearance for Nashville, while switch-pitcher Pat Venditte allowed no runs in 2/3 of an inning in what could be his last rehab game for the Sounds. Left fielder Ryan Roberts ripped a 3-run homer in the top of the 1st to give the Sounds a lead they would never relinquish on Saturday, while first baseman Nate Freiman collected 3 doubles and drove in a run, and designated hitter Anthony Aliotti had 2 hits and drove in a pair for Nashville.

With a man on, two outs and the game tied in the bottom of the 5th, right fielder Matt Olson smashed a 2-run homer, his fourth round-tripper of the week, to give the RockHounds a 2-run lead. Olson drove in another run with a sacrifice fly in the 3rd and also singled and walked in the game, while third baseman Renato Nunez collected 4 hits, including a pair of doubles, and drove in a run, and designated hitter Ryon Healy singled and doubled in a pair of runs in the RockHounds’ 3-run 7th. Starter Chris Jensen was charged with 5 runs over 6 1/3 innings of work, while LHP Omar Duran picked up the win with 2/3 of an inning of scoreless relief for the RockHounds.

The Ports pulled out the win in a 12-inning marathon that lasted over 4 hours on Saturday. Third baseman Matt Chapman drove in Stockton’s first 3 runs, singling in a run in the top of the 1st, then hitting a 2-run homer to tie the game in the 3rd. Chapman, whose 23 home runs now tie him for the league lead despite missing the first month of the season, also walked twice and stole a base in the game. Designated hitter B.J. Boyd singled in the go-ahead run in the top of the 12th, and shortstop Yairo Munoz followed up by doubling in 2 more runs in the 12th. In addition to his 12th-inning double, Munoz also had a pair of singles, a walk and a stolen base in the game, while outfielder Tyler Marincov collected 3 hits, including a double, and catcher Jacob Nottingham had a pair of hits for the Ports. 20-year-old RHP Casey Meisner, acquired from the Mets for Tyler Clippard, allowed 4 runs, 3 earned on 6 hits and 4 walks while striking out 4 over 3 2/3 innings of work in his California League debut, while RHP Sam Bragg gave up 1 run in 3 innings of relief to pick up his 6th win as Stockton snapped its six-game losing streak on Saturday.

Starter Daniel Gossett allowed 4 runs over 6 2/3 innings of work on Saturday, while LHP Jose Torres gave up 2 runs with the game tied in the top of the 9th to take the loss for the Snappers. Outfielder Joe Bennie belted a 2-run homer in the bottom of the 5th to give Beloit the lead and also doubled and walked in the game, while first baseman Sandber Pimentel slugged his 11th home run, a solo shot in the 6th, and designated hitter Max Kuhn collected 3 hits, including a double, and drove in a run in the loss as the Snappers dropped their seventh straight on Saturday.

This year’s 6th-round draft pick for the A’s, RHP Bowdien Derby, struck out 3 over 3 shutout innings to get things off to a good start for the Lake Monsters, while LHP Tyler Painton tossed 2 scoreless frames to pick up the win. RHP Corey Miller contributed 3 scoreless innings in relief, and RHP John Gorman made things close by allowing 3 runs in the bottom of the 9th, but Vermont hung on to win on Saturday. Outfielder Brett Siddall singled and scored the Lake Monsters’ first run in the 2nd and singled in another run in the 5th, while first baseman Chris Iriart and second baseman Trace Loehr each singled and drove in a run for Vermont.
