21-year-old Venezuelan RHP Angel Duno turned in his fourth straight strong start for the A’s, allowing just 1 run while walking none and striking out 6 over 5 innings of work to earn his 4th straight win on Thursday. And Duno has now allowed a total of just 4 earned runs over his last 4 starts for the A’s. RHP Dustin Hurlbutt got the final four outs for his 1st save. Shortstop Eric Marinez had 2 hits and drove in a pair, while catcher Miguel Guzman singled, doubled and scored, and outfielder James Terrell and designated hitter Robert Martinez both walked 4 times in the win.

Starter Barry Zito allowed 4 runs, just 2 earned, over 6 innings of work and left with the game a 4-4 tie on Thursday. RHP Brock Huntzinger gave up the tying run in the top of the 9th, but Nashville tied things up again, with the help of a wild pitch, in the bottom of the 9th. Huntzinger then walked the first two batters in the top of the 10th before handing things over to RHP Ryan Cook. Cook allowed both runners to score before the inning was through, handing Huntzinger his 1st loss for the Sounds. Second baseman Joey Wendle collected 3 hits and drove in a run, while outfielder Dayan Viciedo tripled in a run to put the Sounds on the board in the bottom of the 1st, and catcher Carson Blair, outfielder Craig Gentry, first baseman Nate Freiman and designated hitter Ryan Roberts had a pair of hits apiece in the loss. Meanwhile, Nashville LHP Jim Fuller was placed on the disabled list with a sore left shoulder.

Shortstop Chad Pinder doubled in the RockHounds’s first run to tie the game in the bottom of the 3rd, then he drove in the tying run once again with a single in the 7th. Right fielder Matt Olson singled in the go-ahead run in the 7th and also collected another single and a walk in the game, while designated hitter Renato Nunez had 3 hits, including a double, and third baseman Ryon Healy, who returned from the disabled list, had 2 hits and drove in a pair for the Hounds. Starter Chris Jensen allowed 3 runs over 6 innings of work and left with his team down by a run, while RHP Kris Hall picked up the win despite giving up 1 run in 1 1/3 innings of relief, and RHP Seth Frankoff got the final five outs for his 5th save. And while Healy made his return to the RockHounds’ active roster, RHP Ryan Doolittle was placed on the disabled list for Midland.

Shortstop Franklin Barreto belted his 10th home run to put the Ports on the board in the top of the 7th, then he brought in Stockton’s only other run of the game with a sacrifice fly in the 9th. But Barreto also made 2 errors in the game, bringing his season total to 34. Outfielder B.J. Boyd collected the Ports’ only other hit of the game when he tripled and scored on Barreto’s sacrifice fly in the 9th. Starter Dylan Covey allowed 6 runs, just 2 earned, over 4 innings of work to take his 6th loss for Stockton.

Starter Daniel Gossett allowed 3 runs, just 1 earned, over 6 1/3 innings of work to take his 10th loss in a game that finished with one out in the bottom of the 7th due to rain. Shortstop Yairo Munoz had 3 hits, including a pair of doubles, and drove in the only run of the game for the Snappers.

Center fielder Skye Bolt doubled in the winning run in the top of the 9th for Vermont on Thursday. This year’s 4th-round draft pick for the A’s also doubled and scored in the 6th, while third baseman Trace Loehr and designated hitter Richie Martin each collected 3 hits and drove in a run, and shortstop Mikey White and right fielder Seth Brown had a pair of hits apiece for the Lake Monsters. Starter Chris Kohler allowed 5 runs in just 3 innings of work, while RHP Bowdien Derby gave up 1 run in 3 innings of relief to pick up his 1st win, and RHP James Naile tossed a scoreless 9th to notch his 2nd save.
