19-year-old Venezuelan RHP Argenis Blanco was impressive on Saturday, allowing just 5 hits while walking none and striking out 6 over 5 scoreless innings to earn his 2nd win for the A’s. The young righty has now allowed a total of 2 runs and struck out 9 in his first 10 innings this season. This year’s 5th-round draft pick for the A’s, LHP Kevin Duchene, threw 2 shutout innings, while RHP Phillip Ortiz and converted catcher Ryan Gorton each tossed 1 scoreless inning in relief. 11th-round center fielder James Terrell had 3 hits, including a triple, and drove in a run, while second baseman Carlos Hiciano doubled in the A’s first run in the 2nd, and designated hitter Rangel Ravelo singled in a pair of runs in the 6th for the A’s.

Starter Sean Nolin was solid on Saturday, allowing just 1 run over 5 2/3 innings to earn his 2nd win for the Sounds. Outfielder Jason Pridie had 2 hits and a walk, stole 2 bases and drove in the Sounds’ first 2 runs in the bottom of the 1st, while third baseman Ryan Roberts had 3 hits and drove in a run in the 3rd, and shortstop Andy Parrino hit a 3-run homer in the 4th for Nashville.

Renato Nunez, starting his seventh game at first base, collected 3 hits and scored the tying run in the top of the 4th and drove in another run in the 8th for the RockHounds, while catcher Carson Blair and outfielder Chad Oberacker both doubled in runs in Midland’s 5-run 4th, and second baseman Colin Walsh and designated hitter Matt Olson had a pair of hits apiece for the Hounds. Starter Jonathan Joseph allowed 3 runs over 5 innings of work to pick up his 4th win, while relievers Chris Lamb, Ryan Doolittle and Omar Duran combined to pitch 4 perfect innings in relief for the RockHounds.

Pitcher Raul Alcantara

RHP Raul Alcantara had his second straight solid outing for Stockton on Saturday as he makes his return from Tommy John surgery. Alcantara allowed just 1 run over 4 innings of work and left the game, after throwing 56 pitches, with a 1-run lead. RHP Lou Trivino was credited with the win after throwing a scoreless 5th, while LHP Matt Stalcup tossed 2 shutout innings. LHP Phil Coke, who was signed to a minor league contract by the A’s, threw a scoreless 8th in his Stockton debut, and RHP Brendan McCurry got the final three outs for his 13th save. Catcher Beau Taylor doubled in a pair of runs in the 1st, while center fielder Brett Vertigan singled and scored in the 1st and hit his 4th home run in the 8th for Stockton.

RHP Brett Graves had a rough start on Saturday, allowing 5 runs over 4 2/3 innings to take his 3rd loss for the Snappers. Third baseman Jose Brizuela had a pair of hits and drove in Beloit’s only run in the top of the 1st, while first baseman Max Kuhn singled, doubled and walked, and designated hitter Joe Bennie singled and walked in the loss.
