It took 14 innings for the RockHounds to win their third straight and sweep their series at Tulsa on Thursday. With the game tied 3-3 in the top of the 14th inning, Midland managed to put 6 runs on the board. Third baseman Renato Nunez and designated hitter Bruce Maxwell each singled in a run to give the Hounds a 2-run lead before outfielder Jaycob Brugman stepped to the plate with the bases loaded and slugged a grand slam to put the game out of reach. Nunez also homered for the second straight day, smacking a 2-run homer in the 7th, while catcher Carson Blair followed Nunez’s blast with a solo shot of his own in the 7th to tie the game. Shortstop Chad Pinder contributed 4 hits, including a double, and scored on Nunez’s homer in the 7th. Starter Tim Atherton was a little shaky, allowing 3 runs on 7 hits and 4 walks over 5 innings of work, but Midland’s bullpen was solid. RHPs Andres Avila, Tucker Healy, Bobby Wahl, Ryan Dull and Kris Hall combined to hold Tulsa scoreless for 9 innings, with Hall picking up his 1st win after pitching 2 perfect innings in relief.

With scheduled starter Sean Nolin placed on the disabled with a groin strain before the game, LHP Ryan Verdugo made the spot start for the Sounds on Thursday. Verdugo allowed 2 runs over just 2 1/3 innings before giving way to RHP Arnold Leon, who tossed 2 1/3 scoreless innings in his return to Nashville. But LHP Jim Fuller gave up 1 run in 2 1/3 innings of relief to take the loss. Shortstop Ryan Roberts had 2 hits and drove in a run, while outfielder Craig Gentry had a pair of hits, stole a base and scored a run in the loss.

Starter Dylan Covey had a solid outing for Stockton, allowing 2 runs, just 1 earned, over 6 1/3 innings to earn his 5th win on Thursday. RHP Corey Walter tossed 1 2/3 scoreless innings in relief, while RHP Brendan McCurry posted his 7th save despite giving run a run in the 9th. Outfielder Brett Vertigan tripled in a run, while catcher Beau Taylor doubled, walked twice and scored twice. Shortstop Franklin Barreto singled and swiped 2 bases, and outfielder Tyler Marincov had a pair of hits for the Ports.

Shortstop Yairo Munoz continued his hot hitting on Thursday, collecting 3 hits, including his 7th home run, and driving in a pair for the Snappers. Second baseman Trent Gilbert singled and slugged his 3rd home run, while catcher Argenis Raga tripled in a run in the loss. Starter Heath Fillmyer gave up 3 runs in just 4 innings of work to take his 6th loss for the Snappers, while RHP Koby Gauna allowed 1 run in 1 inning of relief in his first game back in action since serving a 50-game suspension for testing positive for a drug of abuse. It was also announced on Thursday that shortstop Yairo Munoz, first baseman/designated hitter Sandber Pimentel and RHP Brett Graves have been selected to participate in the Midwest League All-Star Game in Peoria on June 23.
