RHP Chris Bassitt had one of his best starts yet for the Sounds, allowing just 1 run on 4 hits while walking none and striking out 4 over 5 2/3 innings to earn his 2nd win on Friday. RHP Brock Huntzinger struck out 4 in 2 perfect innings of relief, while RHP R.J. Alvarez got the final three outs for his 2nd save. The Sounds recorded just 3 hits while registering their fifth straight win on Friday. Shortstop Niuman Romero, second baseman Joey Wendle and designated hitter Nate Freiman, who was activated from the disabled list on Friday, each singled for the Sounds. And with Freiman returning to action, RHP Seth Frankoff was reassigned to the RockHounds.

With two outs, two on and his team already down by three runs in the bottom of the 1st on Friday, designated hitter Josh Whitaker slugged his 4th home run to tie the game for the RockHounds. And Whitaker is now 6 for 12 with 3 home runs over his last 3 games. Catcher Carson Blair walked, singled and drove in a pair and has now driven in 11 runs in his last 4 games. Starter Tim Atherton was charged with 6 runs over 5 1/3 innings of work, while RHP Andres Avila allowed 2 runs, 1 earned, in 1 inning of relief to take the loss for the RockHounds.

RHP Dylan Covey got off to a shaky start for Stockton on Friday, allowing 3 runs over the first 2 innings before settling in to throw 3 shutout innings after that. Relievers Corey Walter, Matt Stalcup and Ben Bracewell then held Lake Elsinore scoreless until Stockton could eventually come back to tie the game in the bottom of the 9th and send the game to extra innings. But Brendan McCurry ended up allowing the winning run in the top of the 11th to take the loss. The Ports managed just 4 hits on Friday. Outfielder Brett Vertigan was involved in most of the Ports’ offensive action, reaching base 5 times – on 4 walks and a single – swiping 3 bases, scoring Stockton’s second run in the 5th and driving in the tying run in the 9th. Meanwhile, a number of rehabbing A’s players are reportedly headed to Stockton, with LHP Eric O’Flaherty set to make a relief appearance on Saturday, LHP Drew Pomeranz scheduled to make the start on Sunday and RHP A.J. Griffin set to go on Tuesday.

Friday’s game was suspended with two outs in the top of the 6th inning and the game tied 3-3. Starter Kevin Johnson allowed 3 runs, 2 earned, over 4 innings of work, while third baseman Jose Brizuela doubled in 2 runs in the 1st inning, and outfielders James Harris and Joe Bennie had a pair of hits apiece for the Snappers.
