With a man on and his team down by two runs in the bottom of the 4th on Thursday, third baseman Jose Brizuela slugged a 2-run homer to tie the game for the Snappers. Brizuela also singled, walked and stole a base in the game. First baseman Sandber Pimentel belted his 5th home run to put Beloit on the board in the 2nd, while outfielder Max Kuhn doubled in a pair of runs in the 3rd, and catcher Jose Chavez doubled and came around to score the decisive run on second baseman Edwin Diaz’s sacrifice fly in the 4th. Starter Daniel Gossett allowed 5 runs, 3 earned, over 5 innings of work to post his 2nd win, while LHP Jerad Grundy tossed 2 2/3 scoreless innings in relief, and LHP Jose Torres got the final four outs to earn his 3rd save for the Snappers.

LHP Barry Zito had a shaky start for the Sounds on Thursday, allowing 8 runs, 5 earned, on 9 hits and 4 walks in just 4 2/3 innings to take his 4th loss, while LHP Jim Fuller gave up 2 more runs in 1 1/3 innings in relief for Nashville. Third baseman Ryan Roberts was the only Sounds hitter to have a multi-hit game, collecting a pair of singles and a walk and driving in a run while also making a key error in the 5th inning. Shortstop Andy Parrino left the game in the 2nd inning, fueling speculation that he could soon be joining the A’s roster, while first baseman Nate Freiman was activated off the 7-day disabled list and, after appearing in two games with Stockton, A’s infielder-outfielder Ben Zobrist is continuing his rehab with the Sounds in Fresno.

First baseman Ryon Healy helped account for the Hounds first and last runs on Thursday night. With two outs in the 1st inning, Healy singled in a run to put the RockHounds on the board and, with his team holding a slim 1-run lead in the top of the 8th, Healy hit his 3rd home run to provide a slightly more comfortable cushion for the Hounds. Third baseman Renato Nunez hit his 2nd home run in the last three games, while catcher Bruce Maxwell singled in a run, and shortstop Chad Pinder and designated hitter Carson Blair had a pair of hits apiece. Starter Chris Lamb returned to the RockHounds after spending three weeks at extended spring training in Arizona and struck out 5 over 3 scoreless innings. RHP Jonathan Joseph allowed 1 run in 3 innings of relief to pick up his 2nd win for Midland, while RHP Bobby Wahl gave up 1 run in 1 inning of work, and RHP Ryan Dull tossed a scoreless 8th and 9th to earn his 2nd save.

LHP Dillon Overton had his first really rough start of the season on Thursday, allowing 8 runs, 7 earned, on 10 hits over just 2 innings of work to take his 1st loss, while LHP Matt Stalcup and RHP Trevor Bayless both tossed 3 scoreless innings in relief. Third baseman Matt Chapman singled and hit his 3rd home run, while center fielder Brett Vertigan had 3 hits, including a double, and left fielder B.J. Boyd singled in a run in the loss.
