As usual, center fielder Billy Burns was in the middle of much of the action for the Sounds on Monday night. Burns reached base 3 times, on a pair of singles and a walk, drove in 2 runs, notched his 5th stolen base, and scored 3 runs, including the tying run in the bottom of the 5th for Nashville. Right fielder Kent Matthes doubled with the bases loaded in the 7th to bring in 3, while third baseman Niuman Romero singled, doubled, walked and scored twice for the Sounds. Starter Barry Zito had a shaky outing, allowing 5 runs on 9 hits over 3 2/3 innings of work. Switch-pitcher Pat Venditte tossed 2 1/3 scoreless innings in relief, while RHP Brock Huntzinger pitched a perfect 7th to pick up the win, and RHP Chad Smith got the final six outs for the Sounds.

Starter Chris Lamb had a rough outing for the RockHounds, allowing 8 runs, 7 earned, in just 1 inning of work to take his 2nd loss in the first game of Monday’s doubleheader. LHP Jim Fuller didn’t fare much better, surrendering 5 runs in 1 inning of relief, while RHP Kris Hall gave up 3 runs in 2 innings of work. RHP Ryan Dull was the only RockHounds reliever able to put out the fire, striking out 4 in 2 scoreless innings. Midland managed just 2 hits in the game, with shortstop Wade Kirkland and outfielder Jaycob Brugman each notching a single in the loss.

After RockHounds pitchers surrendered 16 runs in the first game of Monday’s doubleheader, RHP Zach Neal turned in an impressive outing for Midland in Monday’s second match, striking out 5 over 6 scoreless innings to earn his 2nd win. RHP Bobby Wahl got the final three outs for his 2nd save. Outfielder Jaycob Brugman singled, doubled and drove in a run, while first baseman Matt Olson and shortstop Chad Pinder both doubled and drove in a run for the RockHounds.

Starter Dylan Covey had a solid outing for Stockton on Monday, allowing just 2 runs on 5 hits over 7 innings, but still ended up taking his 2nd loss for the Ports. Outfielder Tyler Marincov singled, tripled and scored Stockton’s only run of the game, while second baseman Branden Cogswell doubled, and designated hitter B.J. Boyd had a pair of singles and a walk for the Ports.

Starter Brett Graves allowed 5 runs over 5 innings of work to pick up his 1st win for the Snappers on Monday. RHP Corey Miller tossed 2 scoreless innings in relief, while RHP Rob Huber pitched a perfect 8th and RHP Trevor Bayless got the final three outs to earn his 1st save for Beloit. First baseman Max Kuhn had 2 hits and drove in the winning run for the Snappers, while third baseman Edwin Diaz singled in a pair. Designated hitter Sandber Pimentel doubled, walked and drove in a run, and outfielders Joe Bennie and Shawn Duinkerk had a pair of hits apiece for the Snappers.
