After delivering the game-winning RBI to give the RockHounds the walk-off win on Thursday, third baseman Jefry Marte did again, singling in the winning run in the bottom of the 10th to give the Hounds their second straight walk-off win on Friday. Marte also singled in Midland’s first run of the game in the 1st inning. Starter Nate Long allowed just 1 run over 6 1/3 innings of work, while RHP Jose Flores tossed a scoreless 10th to pick up his 1st win for the RockHounds.

Second Baseman Jake Elmore

With the bases loaded in the bottom of the 2nd and Sacramento down by a run, second baseman Jake Elmore delivered a decisive 2-run double to give the River Cats a lead they would never surrender on Friday night. Shortstop Andy Parrino, who had 3 hits on the night, followed up Elmore’s double with an RBI-single of his own. Left fielder Shane Peterson singled, walked twice and drove in a run, while right fielder Josh Whitaker doubled, walked and drove in a pair. Starter Philip Humber allowed 2 runs on 5 hits and struck out 5 in 3 innings of work, while RHP Tucker Healy picked up his 1st win for Sacramento with 2 1/3 scoreless innings in relief, and RHP Evan Scribner got the final 3 outs for his 14th save.

LHP Chris Lamb had a solid start for Stockton on Friday, allowing just 1 run over 6 2/3 innings of work, while RHP Nolan Sanburn tossed 2 2/3 scoreless innings in relief, but RHP Rodolfo Fernandez gave up a run in the top of the 12th to take the loss. The Ports were held to just 1 hit over the first 6 innings, until third baseman Ryon Healy hit his 12th home run in the 7th to tie the game. Healy singled in the 9th but was left stranded when outfielder Bobby Crocker and second baseman Wade Kirkland both struck out to leave the bases loaded and send the game to extra innings.

Starter Junior Mendez gave up just 5 hits on Friday but, unfortunately, 4 of them were home runs, and Mendez ended up allowing 4 runs over 6 innings of work to take his 5th loss for the Snappers. Third baseman Luiz Baez and first baseman B.A. Vollmuth both singled and homered, and Baez’s home run in the 5th briefly tied the game for Beloit. Catcher Philip Pohl doubled, while outfielder Ryan Mathews singled and drove in a run in the 9th, and designated hitter Matt Chapman had a pair of hits for the Snappers.

Starter A.J. Burke allowed 2 unearned runs on 4 hits over 5 innings of work to earn his 2nd win, but A’s 10th-round draft pick Corey Miller was even more impressive on Friday. After walking the first batter he faced, Miller retired the next 9 straight to toss 3 scoreless and hitless innings in relief for the Lake Monsters. First baseman Ryan Huck hit a 3-run homer, while third baseman Max Kuhn tagged a 2-run shot, and outfielder Brett Vertigan had 3 hits and drove in a pair for Vermont.

 

ARIZONA LEAGUE  (Rookie Short-Season)

LHP Dillon Overton delivered another strong outing in his return from Tommy John surgery on Friday. Last year’s 2nd-round draft pick for the A’s struck out 3 over 3 scoreless innings and has now allowed 2 runs while walking 1 and striking out 20 over 12 innings of work in Arizona. LHP Victor Veliz gave up 2 runs in 3 innings of relief, while LHP Derek Beasley allowed 1 run in 2 2/3 innings to take the loss. The A’s managed just 5 hits on Friday. Right fielder Vicmal De La Cruz had a pair of hits, while center fielder J.P. Sportman doubled and scored in the loss.
