LHP Carlos Hernandez had a strong outing on Wednesday, allowing 2 runs on 6 hits over 6 innings in his first start for Sacramento since being promoted from Midland, but he still ended up taking the loss. Outfielder Michael Taylor tripled, second baseman Hiro Nakajima doubled, shortstop Andy Parrino had a pair of singles, and third baseman Daric Barton drove in the River Cats’ only run of the game.

Starter Murphy Smith had a solid outing for the RockHounds on Wednesday, allowing 2 runs, just 1 earned, while striking out 6 over 5 1/3 innings of work, but RHP Pedro Vidal took the loss after giving up 3 runs in 2 2/3 innings of relief. Second baseman Dusty Coleman singled and doubled, while third baseman Vinnie Catricala had a pair of hits and drove in a run, and outfielder Conner Crumbliss hit his 9th home run for the RockHounds.

RHP James Simmons had his seventh straight shaky start for Stockton, allowing 4 runs on 11 hits over 4 2/3 innings of work, while LHP Omar Duran tossed 2 1/3 scoreless innings of relief to pick up his 3rd win, and LHP Pedro Viola struck out 5 in 2 scoreless innings to earn his 1st save for Stockton. Designated hitter Phil Pohl singled, doubled and drove in 2 runs, including the tying run, while outfielder Myrio Richard collected 3 hits and drove in a run, and catcher Bruce Maxwell doubled in a pair of runs for the Ports.

Shortstop Daniel Robertson hit a 2-run homer in the top of the 3rd inning to briefly give Beloit the lead on Wednesday. RHP Derek De Young had a solid start for the Snappers, allowing 2 runs on just 3 hits over 6 innings and left with the game tied 2-2, but RHP Trevor Bayless gave up the go-ahead run in the bottom of the 9th inning to take his 1st loss for Vermont.

RHP Kyle Finnegan had a rare rough outing on Wednesday, allowing 7 runs on 6 hits and 6 walks to take his 3rd loss for Vermont, while RHP Bobby Wahl struck out 3 in 2 scoreless innings of relief. Vermont managed just 4 hits in the game, with outfielder B.J. Boyd reaching base twice on a single and a walk.

Outfielder Justin Higley hit his 4th home run to put the A’s on the board in the 2nd inning, and first baseman Shawn Duinkerk doubled and scored with the help of a couple of wild pitches in the 7th inning to provide the margin of victory of Wednesday. Rehabbing Ryan Doolittle tossed 3 scoreless innings, while RHP Jonathan Massad picked up the win with 2/3 of an inning in relief, and RHP Travis Pitcher got the final 6 outs for his 2nd save.
