The Ports lost the game in the 14th inning after more than 5 hours of play. Starter James Simmons gave up 6 runs in 5 1/3 innings of work, and RHP Jonathan Joseph allowed 5 unearned runs in the 14th inning after a fielding error by shortstop Wade Kirkland helped set the table for a grand slam later in the inning. Outfielder Rashun Dixon had 3 hits, including 2 doubles, and drove in a pair of runs, while catcher Bruce Maxwell collected 3 hits as well, and third baseman B.A. Vollmuth belted his 17th home run for the Ports.

Starter Andres Avila had a solid outing for the Snappers, allowing just 3 hits over 5 scoreless innings to earn his 4th win, while RHP Tyler Vail picked up his 3rd save despite allowing 2 runs in the 9th inning. Second baseman Chris Bostick had a pair of hits, including his 12th home run, while outfielder John Wooten slugged his 15th home run for the Snappers.

Starter Kyle Finnegan allowed 2 runs while walking none and striking out 4 over 4 2/3 innings to take his 1st loss on Wednesday. Vermont managed just 4 hits in the game, and first baseman Ryan Huck singled in the Lake Monsters’ only run of the night.

This year’s top draft pick for the A’s, outfielder Billy McKinney, collected 3 hits, drove in a run, stole a base and scored twice on Wednesday. The A’s 5th overall pick, LHP Chris Kohler, struck out 3 in 2 scoreless innings of work to pick up his 1st win for the A’s.

  1. I was at the Beloit game. Would like to add that Bostick made two spectacular plays on defense robbing the Dragons of a couple of hits.
