Worth Noting: With Sacramento down by 2 runs in the bottom of the 6th inning, shortstop Brandon Hicks blasted a grand slam, his 3rd home run in the past 3 games, to drive in what would prove to be the winning run for the River Cats on Thursday night. In his first start back at Sacramento, right-hander Dan Straily had an impressive outing, allowing just 1 run on 3 hits and striking out 4 over 5 innings of work. Brandon Inge doubled in a run in his first rehab game with the River Cats. And in other news, second baseman Jemile Weeks took batting practice with the team on Thursday, but there’s no word yet on when he’s expected to make his first appearance with the Cats.

Worth Noting: With the game tied 1-1 in the bottom of the 8th inning, first baseman A.J. Kirby-Jones clubbed a 2-run homer to drive in the game-winning run for the Ports on Thursday night. Starter Max Perlman had his best outing yet for Stockton, allowing just 2 hits over 6 1/3 scoreless innings, but right-hander T.J. Walz vultured the win by allowing the tying run in the top of the 8th before Kirby-Jones’ game-winning homer in the bottom of the inning.

Worth Noting: Starter Blake Hassebrock turned in a solid outing for Burlington, allowing just 1 run while striking out 6 over 5 innings of work, but right-hander Jose Macias gave up 2 runs in the top of the 10th inning to take the loss. Outfielder Bobby Crocker went 3 for 3 for the Bees on Thursday.

Worth Noting: Starter Andres Avila had a rough outing, allowing 6 runs on 6 hits over just 3 innings to take the loss, but left-hander Omar Duran came on to strike out 5 of the 6 batters he faced in 2 perfect innings of relief. Outfielder Brett Vertigan doubled for Vermont’s only extra base hit of the night.

Finally, a great game by Max Perlman…in only his third chance at starting. I still don’t understand why they made him into a reliever this year – he’s always excelled at being a starter.
Since the summer is tylliacpy when airplane tickets are expensive, you may need to be flexible in the cities you fly to or from. If you are willing to fly to Pittsburgh and drive to Erie, you may be able to find a cheaper ticket. Erie does not have a lot of airlines serving that market so ticket prices may not be cheap.
