A’s Farmhand Of The Day
TRIPLE-A PACIFIC COAST LEAGUE
Tacoma Rainiers 2
Sacramento River Cats 5
(WP – Godfrey 6-0 / 1.21)
Farmhand Of The Game:
Shortstop Brandon Hicks
(Home Run / Double / 3 RBIs)
Worth Noting: Shortstop Brandon Hicks had another big night at the plate. After hitting his 8th home run of the season on Thursday, he launched his 9th home run on Friday to give the River Cats the lead, which they never relinquished. First baseman Daric Barton homered as well, and starter Graham Godfrey had another solid outing, allowing just 2 runs over 7 2/3 innings to run his record to 6-0. In other news, the Manny Ramirez era in Sacramento is officially over as the slugger asked for his release and was promptly granted it by the A’s.
DOUBLE-A TEXAS LEAGUE
San Antonio Missions 6
Midland RockHounds 2
(LP – Ortiz 3-3 / 4.10)
Farmhand Of The Game:
Pitcher Daniel Straily
(8 IP / 1 H / 1 ER / 0 BB / 9 K)
Worth Noting: Starter Daniel Straily turned in one of his most impressive performances of the season, allowing just 1 baserunner over 8 innings – San Antonio second baseman Jonathan Galvez who homered in the 7th inning – while striking out 9 before turning the 2-1 lead over to right-hander Jonathan Ortiz in the 9th. Unfortunately, Ortiz proceeded to give up 5 runs and hand the win to the visiting Missions.
ADVANCED-A CALIFORNIA LEAGUE
Visalia Rawhide 8
Stockton Ports 4
(LP – Hassebrock 1-1 / 8.41)
Farmhand Of The Game:
Third Baseman Miles Head
(2 Home Runs / 3 RBIs)
Worth Noting: Third baseman Miles Head had another big game on Friday, homering twice and driving in 3 runs. The Ports better enjoy his production while they can though, since rumor has it that Head will soon be on his way to Double-A Midland. Starter Blake Hassebrock, making his first appearance after spending the last 8 weeks on the disbled list, allowed 4 runs on 5 hits over just 2 innings. Left-hander Ian Krol followed up by allowing 4 runs, 2 earned, over 5 innings of work.
CLASS-A MIDWEST LEAGUE
Burlington Bees 3
Beloit Snappers 6
(LP – Frankoff 1-5 / 5.69)
Farmhand Of The Game:
Pitcher Jonathan Joseph
(3 IP / 0 ER / 1 K)
Worth Noting: The Bees managed just 6 hits on Friday – 2 of them homers off the bats of third baseman B.A. Vollmuth and outfielder Rashun Dixon. But starter Seth Frankoff had another rocky outing, allowing 6 runs on 10 hits over 5 innings to run his record to 1-5. Right-hander Jonathan Joseph took over in the 6th inning and did his best to give the Bees a chance, tossing 3 scoreless innings in relief.
