The RockHounds scored 21 runs on Saturday, 11 of them in the 9th inning. Designated hitter Renato Nunez collected 5 hits and doubled in a run in the 7th, hit a grand slam in the 9th and then singled in another run in the 9th to give him 6 RBIs on the night. Right fielder Josh Whitaker singled twice, homered, doubled and drove in 5, while left fielder Jaycob Brugman singled, doubled, walked and drove in 3, and catcher Beau Taylor, shortstop Wade Kirkland and third baseman Ryon Healy had 3 hits apiece for the Hounds. With RHP Tim Atherton landing back on the disabled list, RHP Junior Mendez was called up from Beloit to make the start. And Mendez allowed 3 runs on 2 hits and 5 walks over 5 innings of work to earn the win in his Double-A debut on Saturday.

In his fourth appearance since returning from a seven-week stint on the disabled list, LHP Sean Nolin was impressive for the Sounds, retiring the first 12 batters he faced and allowing just 1 baserunner, on a single in the 5th inning, while striking out 6 over 4 2/3 innings of work, and he left the game with a 1-run lead on Monday. LHP Victor Veliz tossed 1 1/3 scoreless innings in relief to pick up the win in his first appearance for Nashville. Outfielder Jason Pridie had a pair of hits, shortstop Andy Parrino and designated hitter Rangel Ravelo each singled, walked and drove in a run, and second baseman Joey Wendle singled and swiped a pair of bases for the Sounds. In addition to Veliz’s addition to the roster, RHP Jake Sanchez and catcher Nick Rickles were promoted to Nashville from Midland and RHP Cody Martin was placed on the temporarily inactive list as the A’s prepare to promote him to Oakland on Tuesday.

Former 1st-round draft pick Sean Manaea, who was recently acquired from Kansas City in the Ben Zobrist trade, couldn’t have made a much better impression in his debut for Midland on Friday. The big lefty allowed just 3 hits while walking none and striking out 9 over 7 shutout innings to earn the win for the RockHounds. The 23-year-old threw a total of 87 pitches, 62 of them for strikes, while RHP Tucker Healy pitched a perfect 8th and 9th to complete the 3-hit shutout for Midland. Outfielder Jaycob Brugman singled, tripled and drove in 2 runs, while first baseman Ryon Healy singled, doubled and scored a run, and outfielder Chad Oberacker had a pair of hits and a walk and drove in a run for the RockHounds. Meanwhile, with Manaea’s addition to the roster, RHP Tim Atherton was placed on the disabled list for Midland.

Pridie also tripled in another run in the 6th, while Dayan Viciedo singled in Pridie in the 6th to tie the game, and shortstop Niuman Romero had a pair of hits for Nashville. Starter Barry Zito allowed 3 runs, just 2 earned, over 6 innings of work, while RHP Aaron Kurcz gave up the winning run in the botton of the 9th to take his 1st loss for the Sounds.

And Seddon has now delivered quality starts in 6 of his last 7 outings for Stockton. Third baseman Matt Chapman continued his power surge, collecting his 16th home run and his 16th double on Wednesday. Chapman and outfielder Tyler Marincov combined on back-to-back home runs to lead off the 4th inning, while first baseman John Nogowski had 2 hits and drove in a pair for the Ports. In other news, former Angels RHP Ryan Brasier, who missed all of last season due to Tommy John surgery, signed a minor league contract with the A’s and was placed on the Ports’ disabled list, while LHP Phil Coke was promoted to Nashville and LHP Chris Lamb was reassigned to Stockton from Midland.

The 21-year-old went 3 for 3 and hit his 2nd home run, a 3 run-shot, in the 2nd inning while making his third start at third base for the Lake Monsters. 10th-round outfielder Steven Pallares had a pair of hits, including his 1st home run, and also drove in 3. 25th-round LHP Evan Manarino was solid in his first start, allowing just 2 hits over 3 scoreless innings, while 24th-round RHP Heath Bowers gave up 2 runs, 1 earned, in 2 innings of relief to pick up his 1st win for Vermont.

21-year-old Venezuelan RHP Angel Duno turned in another strong start on Sunday, allowing just 1 hit while walking none and striking out 3 over 5 shutout innings to earn his 2nd win for the A’s. And Duno has now failed to allow a walk while striking out 14 over his first 20 innings this season. 16th-round RHP Dustin Hurlbutt tossed 2 scoreless innings in relief, while 30th-round RHP Brendan Butler gave up 2 runs over 1 1/3 innings, and RHP Yordy Alejo got the final two outs in the 9th to notch his 1st save. Rehabbing first baseman Rangel Ravelo went 1 for 3 with a walk and drove in the first 2 runs for the A’s, while outfielder Jhonny Rodriguez singled, tripled and drove in a run, and designated hitter Luis Barrera had 3 hits and scored a run for the A’s.

RHP Tim Atherton turned in his best start yet for Midland on Thursday, allowing just 2 hits and 2 walks while striking out 7 over 8 scoreless innings to earn his 5th win for the RockHounds as they shut out San Antonio in the opening game of the series. RHP Andres Avila got the final three outs in the 9th to complete the shutout for the Hounds. Third baseman Renato Nunez hit a 2-run homer in the top of the 1st, while left fielder Jaycob Brugman singled in a pair in the 7th, and first baseman Matt Olson and right fielder Josh Whitaker had a pair of hits apiece for the RockHounds. In other news, Olson and Nunez were both selected to participate in the Futures Game, which will be played on Sunday, July 12 in Cincinnati.

With two outs, a man on and the game tied in the bottom of the 9th, first baseman Michael Soto doubled to drive in the winning run as the Ports won in a walk-off on Saturday to post their eighth straight victory. Soto also singled but was left stranded in the 7th, while third baseman Matt Chapman homered for the second straight night, hitting his 10th to tie him with Beloit’s Sandber Pimentel for most among A’s minor leaguers, and designated hitter John Nogowski singled in a run in the 3rd for Stockton. Starter Kyle Finnegan allowed 3 runs over 5 innings of work and left with the game tied, while RHPs Trevor Bayless and Sam Roberts each tossed 2 scoreless innings in relief, with Roberts picking up his 2nd win for the Ports.

RHP Kyle Finnegan turned in a strong start for Stockton on Monday, allowing just 1 run over 6 innings of work to earn his 4th win. The 23-year-old had given up 12 earned runs in 14 2/3 innings over his last 3 starts for the Ports. A’s RHP Edward Mujica made his first rehab appearance for Stockton and struck out 2 in a spotless 7th. RHP Corey Walter also struck out a pair in the 8th, and RHP Trevor Bayless pitched a perfect 9th in his return from the disabled list. Outfielder Tyler Marincov singled, doubled and drove in 3, while third baseman Matt Chapman doubled in a pair in the 2nd. After collecting 4 hits on Sunday, shortstop Franklin Barreto had 3 hits, including a double, on Monday, and first baseman John Nogowski and second baseman Branden Cogswell had a pair of hits apiece for the Ports. While Trevor Bayless was activated from the disabled list on Monday, outfielder J.P. Sportman returned to the disabled list for Stockton.
