Nashville Sounds  2

Prospect Of The Game:

Pitcher Jesse Hahn

(4 IP / 2 H / 1 ER / 3 BB / 6 K)

It was a day filled with lots of intriguing roster news for Nashville fans. But on the field, it was the first chance for Jesse Hahn to return to the mound since he landed on the disabled list after his last start for Oakland. Hahn allowed just 1 run while striking out 6 over 4 innings of work on Tuesday. He left the game with a one-run lead and turned the game over to the Sounds bullpen, which held Tacoma scoreless over the next 5 frames. RHP Angel Castro earned his 1st win of the season, while RHP Tucker Healy got the final three outs to notch his 8th save for Nashville. The Sounds managed just 3 hits in the win. Catcher Matt McBride singled in a run, while right fielder Jaycob Brugman walked, singled and scored a run when designated hitter Rangel Ravelo was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Renato Nunez made his second start in the last three days in left field and went 0 for 4 in the game. Meanwhile, the Texas League’s top home run hitter, third baseman Matt Chapman, was added to the Sounds roster on Tuesday. And with Chapman’s addition to the squad, there’s a need for Nunez to increase his versatility. The San Francisco Chronicle and other sources also reported on Tuesday that Nashville shortstop Chad Pinder was set to join the A’s on Wednesday, and Josh Rodriguez made the start at shortstop for the Sounds on Tuesday. And in other news, Nashville reliever Ryan Doolittle was sent to the Arizona League A’s.

Thrid baseman Renato Nunez hit a rare inside-the-park grand slam for the Sounds on Thursday. And when the umpire ruled that the ball was playable, Nunez was credited with the grand slam. The 22-year-old also doubled, singled and walked in the game and lifted his batting average to an even .300. Left fielder Max Muncy singled, doubled, drew a pair of walks and scored 3 times. RHP Jesse Hahn turned in a strong start in his return to the Sounds, allowing just 1 run while striking out 5 over 5 2/3 innings to earn the win. Meanwhile, catcher Bruce Maxwell, who was placed on the 7-day disabled list after an awkward slide last weekend led to some shoulder irritation, is expected to return to action early next week.

A’s Farm Report for Week of April 25-May 1: Prospects On The Move

RHP Daniel Mengden is on the move from Midland to Nashville.

RHP Daniel Mengden is on the move from Midland to Nashville.

There were plenty of players on the move throughout the A’s system this past week. Injuries at the major league level and the minor league level, particularly to pitchers like Chris Bassitt, Daniel Gossett and Dustin Driver as well as others, necessitated a number of different moves. But the promotions of Sean Manaea and Jesse Hahn to Oakland, the return of Yairo Munoz to action at Midland and the promotion of Daniel Mengden to Nashville represented some of the biggest moves this week. A version of this weekly minor league report by Athletics Farm originally appeared on Athletics Nation
