Gray tossed 6 scoreless innings to earn his 4th win and lower his ERA to 2.19. Left fielder Scott Moore collected 3 hits, including a pair of doubles, while center fielder Michael Choice slugged his 7th home run and drove in 3 runs for the River Cats. Outfielder Chad Oberacker homered in the top of the 1st inning to put Midland on the board, while outfielder Jake Goebbert’s home run tied the game in the 5th, but RHP Mike DeMark surrendered a run in the 6th to take the loss. With outfielder Jeremy Barfield’s elevation to Sacramento, outfielder Josh Whitaker was promoted to Midland and, while serving as the designated hitter, drove in a run on a sacrifice fly in his debut with the RockHounds. He’ll be joined there by A’s starter Brett Anderson, who is set to begin a rehab assignment with Midland.

But outfielder Chad Oberacker drove in shortstop Dusty Coleman in the bottom of the 9th to allow Newby to pick up his 1st win of the season. Outfielder Jeremy Barfield clubbed a 3-run homer to put Midland on the board in the 1st.

In his first appearance with Beloit since being demoted from Stockton, RHP Andres Avila gave up 2 runs on 5 hits in 3 innings of relief, and RHP Tucker Healy took the loss after allowing 3 unearned runs to score in the bottom of the 8th inning. Third baseman Renato Nunez, who made 3 errors on Saturday, made a pair of errors in the 8th on Sunday to now give him a total of 9 on the season. And shortstop Daniel Robertson continued his hot hitting, collecting 3 more hits to raise his average to .448.

Outfielder Conner Crumbliss contributed his 2nd home run, and third baseman Scott Moore, first Daric Barton and designated hitter Jemile Weeks collected 3 hits apiece. Starter Andrew Werner allowed 6 runs on 13 hits over 6 innings, but still walked away with his 1st win on Sunday.

Outfielder Michael Taylor extended his hitting streak to 6 games on Tuesday, collecting 3 hits, including 2 doubles, and driving in a pair of runs. Designated hitter Jemile Weeks doubled to run his hit streak to 6 games as well, and Grant Green, getting his 5th start in 6 games at second base, had 2 hits in the game. And with Scott Sizemore’s knee injury in Anaheim, Weeks and Green could potentially be in competition for a little major league time in the near future. It appears that shortstop Andy Parrino may be in the mix as well.
