Starter Heath Fillmyer had an impressive outing on Sunday, allowing just 2 hits over 5 shutout innings to earn his 2nd win since joining the RockHounds last month. RHP Lou Trivino pitched 2 perfect innings in relief, while RHP Trey Cochran-Gill tossed a scoreless 8th, and RHP Jake Sanchez got the final three outs in the 9th to complete the 3-hit shutout on Sunday. Center fielder Brett Vertigan singled, doubled, stole a base, and drove in 3, while shortstop Franklin Barreto singled in a run for the RockHounds. And after San Antonio’s loss on Sunday night, Midland’s magic number for clinching the second-half division title is now down to just two.

After RHP Daniel Mengden threw 5 scoreless innings to lead Nashville to a shutout victory on Tuesday, RHP Raul Alcantara tossed 5 scoreless frames to lead the Sounds to their second straight shutout win on Wednesday. Alcantara allowed just 4 hits without allowing a walk, while RHPs Ryan Brasier, Eduard Santos and Bobby Wahl combined to throw 4 scoreless innings in relief to complete the 6-hit shutout, with Wahl picking up his 3rd save for the Sounds. Left fielder Renato Nunez homered for the second straight day, ripping his 23rd round-tripper, while catcher Matt McBride and center fielder Jaycob Brugman both walked and doubled in runs to help the Sounds win their fifth straight. And with Oakland shortstop Marcus Semien going on paternity leave, Nashville RHP J.B. Wendelken was recalled by the A’s on Wednesday.

RHP Argenis Blanco turned in another impressive outing for the AZL A’s, striking out 8 over 5 2/3 shutout innings to earn his 4th win on Thursday, and the 20-year-old Venezuelan has now failed to allow more than 2 earned runs in each of his last 10 appearances. 19-year-old Dominican RHP Wandisson Charles gave up 1 run in 3 1/3 innings of relief to earn his 1st save. This year’s 21st-round draft pick for the A’s, left fielder Kyle Nowlin, had 2 hits, including a double, and drove in a pair, while 28th-round second baseman Josh Vidales singled, doubled and drove in a run, and 2015 11th-round center fielder James Terrell walked, doubled in a run and scored twice for the A’s in Thursday’s win.

It was a day filled with lots of intriguing roster news for Nashville fans. But on the field, it was the first chance for Jesse Hahn to return to the mound since he landed on the disabled list after his last start for Oakland. Hahn allowed just 1 run while striking out 6 over 4 innings of work on Tuesday. He left the game with a one-run lead and turned the game over to the Sounds bullpen, which held Tacoma scoreless over the next 5 frames. RHP Angel Castro earned his 1st win of the season, while RHP Tucker Healy got the final three outs to notch his 8th save for Nashville. The Sounds managed just 3 hits in the win. Catcher Matt McBride singled in a run, while right fielder Jaycob Brugman walked, singled and scored a run when designated hitter Rangel Ravelo was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Renato Nunez made his second start in the last three days in left field and went 0 for 4 in the game. Meanwhile, the Texas League’s top home run hitter, third baseman Matt Chapman, was added to the Sounds roster on Tuesday. And with Chapman’s addition to the squad, there’s a need for Nunez to increase his versatility. The San Francisco Chronicle and other sources also reported on Tuesday that Nashville shortstop Chad Pinder was set to join the A’s on Wednesday, and Josh Rodriguez made the start at shortstop for the Sounds on Tuesday. And in other news, Nashville reliever Ryan Doolittle was sent to the Arizona League A’s.

LHP Andrew Tomasovich got the final out in the 9th to notch his 1st save for the Snappers. First baseman Chris Iriart singled in a run in the bottom of the 1st to put Beloit on the board, while designated hitter Brett Siddall homered in the 4th, and left fielder Luis Barrera doubled and scored in the 1st and tripled in a run in the 7th for the Snappers.

The 24-year-old collected 4 hits, including a home run and a double, and drove in 4 runs, while third baseman Renato Nunez singled, hit his team-leading 15th home run and drove in 2 runs, and first baseman Rangel Ravelo homered and drove in a pair. Starter Ross Detwiler allowed 4 runs over 6 innings of work to earn his 2nd win for the Sounds. And with Oakland optioning RHP Jesse Hahn back to Nashville on Monday, Max Muncy was recalled by the A’s.

With the RockHounds down by 2 runs, RHP Corey Walter entered the game in the bottom of the 6th and tossed 4 shutout innings to give the Hounds the chance to come back and win their third straight on Thursday. Walter earned the win for Midland and now has a 2.40 ERA in 75 innings for the RockHounds this season. RHP Heath Fillmyer made the start and allowed 2 runs over 5 innings of work in his Double-A debut. First baseman Viosergy Rosa had the big hit in the 8th inning, a 2-run double to drive in the winning run. Second baseman Josh Rodriguez had a pair of hits, while catcher Beau Taylor and right fielder Tyler Marincov both singled in runs for the RockHounds. In addition to Fillmyer, RHP Lou Trivino was also reassigned to the RockHounds from Stockton, while Midland RHP Chris Jensen was sent to the Sounds on Thursday.

The 23-year-old also allowed 1 unearned run over his 6 1/3 innings of work and now has a 3.14 ERA in 9 Texas League starts. RHP Ben Bracewell gave up 1 run in 1 2/3 innings of relief for the RockHounds. Left fielder Brett Vertigan had 2 hits and drove in a run, while catcher Andy Paz had a pair of singles as well as a pair of errors, and center fielder J.P. Sportman doubled and drew a pair of walks in the loss.

Center fielder Brett Vertigan doubled twice and scored twice, while catcher Beau Taylor singled, doubled and drove in a pair of runs for the RockHounds. After finishing the first half 16 games under .500, Stockton has come out swinging in the second half. And on Sunday, they claimed their third win in their first four games since the California League All-Star break. Third baseman Jose Brizuela led the attack, collecting 3 hits, including his 6th home run, driving in 3 runs and notching his 1st stolen base of the season. Catcher Argenis Raga also had 3 hits, including a double, as well as a walk and drove in 2 runs, while center fielder James Harris walked twice and tripled, and left fielder B.J. Boyd had 2 hits and drove in a pair for the Ports. LHP Zack Erwin gave up 3 runs over 4 2/3 innings of work on Sunday. RHP Koby Gauna picked up the win despite allowing 1 run in 1 1/3 innings of relief, while RHP Carlos Navas tossed a scoreless 9th to post his 5th save for the Ports. Meanwhile, A’s LHP Rich Hill is scheduled to make a rehab start for Stockton against Modesto on Monday.
