Designated hitter Chris Carter had a huge night at the plate to lead Nashville to victory on Tuesday. The 30-year-old slugger singled, tripled, homered, walked and drove in 5 runs, including the tying and winning runs in the top of the 8th for the Sounds. Third baseman Renato Nunez singled twice and scored 3 times, while catcher Beau Taylor walked and singled in a run. Starter Ben Bracewell picked up the win despite surrendering 5 runs in 7 innings of work, while RHP Raul Alcantara tossed 2 scoreless innings in relief to secure his 3rd save for the Sounds.

Stockton shut out Visalia on 5 hits to win its third straight on Saturday. Starter Dalton Sawyer was outstanding, striking out 5 while throwing 5 scoreless innings to earn his 3rd win for the Ports, and last year’s 9th-round draft pick for the A’s has now allowed just 4 earned runs while striking out 23 over his last 20 innings for Stockton. RHPs Joey Wagman, Miguel Romero and Kyle Friedrichs combined to throw 4 scoreless frames in relief to complete the shutout on Saturday. First baseman Mikey White walked and doubled with the bases loaded to drive in 3 runs, and designated hitter Jake Smolinski went 0 for 2 with a walk and was hit by a pitch in his first rehab appearance for the Ports. Meanwhile, LHP Andrew Tomasovich was activated from the disabled list while LHP Jared Lyons landed on the DL for Stockton on Saturday.

Five home runs helped Stockton snap its four-game losing streak on Tuesday. Third baseman Sheldon Neuse wielded the biggest bat of the night, collecting 3 hits, including 2 home runs, while scoring 3 times and driving in 4 runs for the Ports. Right fielder Seth Brown belted a pair of home runs to give him a team-leading total of 19 while driving in 3 runs, and catcher Argenis Raga added a solo shot for Stockton. Third baseman Renato Nunez had a pair of doubles on Friday, including one that drove in the winning run in the top of the 8th inning to help Nashville win its fifth straight. And Nunez now has 13 doubles and a team-leading 26 RBIs for the Sounds. Center fielder Jaycob Brugman doubled and scored in the 1st and drove in a run with a sacrifice fly in the 3rd, while catcher Bruce Maxwell, second baseman Joey Wendle and shortstop Chad Pinder had a pair of hits apiece for Nashville. Starter Angel Castro allowed 2 runs in 4 innings of work, while LHP Daniel Coulombe tossed 2 scoreless frames in relief, and RHP Ryan Brasier threw 3 shutout innings to earn his 3rd win for the Sounds. With catcher Josh Phegley returning to action for the A’s, catcher/outfielder Matt McBride was optioned back to Nashville and catcher Jordan Devencenzi was reassigned to Beloit.

RHP Daniel Mengden turned in another stellar start for the Sounds on Friday, allowing 1 run on just 2 hits while walking 1 and striking our 3 over 7 innings of work, and he exited after throwing 95 pitches – 60 strikes and 35 balls. The 23-year-old held Iowa scoreless through the first 6 innings before allowing a solo home run to lead off the inning in the 7th. Mengden’s 6 shutout frames ran his scoreless streak since joining Nashville to 19 innings, and he’s now allowed 1 run over 20 innings of work for the Sounds. (You can check out out recent interview with Mengden here). After throwing 7 solid innings, Mengden left the game with a one-run lead on Friday, but RHP J.B. Wendelken surrendered 2 runs in the bottom of the 9th to take the loss as Iowa came back to win in a walk-off. Shortstop Chad Pinder slugged his 2nd home run, a solo shot, in the 2nd inning, while second baseman Joey Wendle had a pair of hits and stole a base, and third baseman Max Muncy singled and walked in the loss. Meanwhile, the A’s optioned RHP Zach Neal back to Nashville and recalled catcher/outfielder Matt McBride, while catcher Jordan Devencenzi was assigned to the Sounds roster.

Shortstop Yairo Munoz doubled in 2 runs in the top of the 2nd and singled and scored in the 6th, while outfielder James Harris singled, doubled and walked twice. Third baseman Jose Brizuela singled, tripled and scored, and outfielder Justin Higley and designated hitter Sandber Pimentel had a pair of hits apiece for the Snappers.

RHP Joel Seddon delivered another impressive start for Stockton on Sunday, allowing just 4 hits over 7 shutout innings to earn his 5th win for the Ports. And in 25 innings over his past 4 starts, Seddon has allowed just 4 runs while walking 1 and striking out 16. RHP Corey Walter gave up 1 run in 1 1/3 innings of relief, while RHP Brendan McCurry got the final two outs in the 9th to notch his 14th save. Center fielder Brett Vertigan doubled in 2 runs in the top of the 6th, while left fielder B.J. Boyd had a pair of hits and also drove in a run in the 6th. Right fielder Tyler Marincov doubled in Stockton’s first run in the 3rd, and catcher Nick Rickles had a pair of hits for the Ports.
