Right fielder Seth Brown had a big night at the plate as the Ports won the rubber game of their three-game series with San Jose on Thursday. Brown tripled and scored a run in the 4th inning and then slugged a solo shot in the 6th. The blast was Brown’s team-leading 20th home run of the season. Shortstop Sheldon Neuse singled, homered and drove in a pair of runs for the Ports, and Brown and Neuse have both belted 3 home runs over their last 3 games for Stockton. Starter Norge Ruiz allowed 3 runs over 6 innings of work to earn his 3rd win, while RHP Nolan Blackwood tossed 1 1/3 scoreless innings in relief to secure his 13th save for Stockton.

RHPs Joseph Camacho and John Gorman each contributed 1 scoreless inning in relief to complete the 3-hit shutout. Shortstop Eric Marinez singled, doubled and drove in a run, while third baseman Trace Loehr tripled in 2 runs, and designated hitter Miguel Mercedes singled twice and drove in a pair for the Snappers.

The 23-year-old allowed 3 runs, just 2 earned, while striking out 6 over 6 innings of work to earn his 6th win for the Snappers. RHP John Gorman tossed 2 scoreless innings in relief, and RHP Yordys Alejo got the final three outs in the 9th to notch his 3rd save. Center fielder Mike Martin collected 3 hits, including a double, stole a base and scored twice, while first baseman Kyle Nowlin had 2 hits and a walk and drove in a pair, and left fielder Luke Persico singled twice and drove in a run for the Snappers.

RHP Dustin Hurlbutt helped the RockHounds snap their three-game losing streak on Wednesday. The 24-year-old allowed just 2 hits over 5 1/3 scoreless frames to earn his 1st win for Midland, and Hurlbutt has now failed to allow a run over his last 11 1/3 innings of work for the Hounds. First baseman Viosergy Rosa homered, walked and scored twice, while third baseman Jordan Tarsovich had 3 hits, including a double. Left fielder Tyler Ramirez doubled in a pair of runs, and designated hitter Jermaine Curtis went 1 for 3 with a walk in his return to the RockHounds from the Sounds on Wednesday.

With the game tied 2-2 and the bases loaded in the bottom of the 5th inning, center fielder Tyler Ramirez stepped to the plate and slugged a grand slam to provide the margin of victory for the Ports on Saturday. And the 22-year-old is now hitting .350 over his last 5 games for Stockton. First baseman Sandber Pimentel homered for the second straight night, while right fielder Seth Brown had 2 hits, including a double, and drove in a run, and designated hitter Marcus Semien singled, doubled, homered and drove in a pair in his first rehab appearance for the Ports. RHP Casey Meisner turned in his third straight quality start for Stockton, allowing 2 runs while striking out 6 over 7 innings of work to earn his 6th win on Saturday.

RHP Jharel Cotton, who was recently acquired from the Dodgers in the Josh Reddick/Rich Hill deal, turned in the top pitching performance of the season for the Sounds on Tuesday. The 24-year-old came within one out of throwing a perfect game before allowing a two-out triple in the bottom of the 9th. Cotton still ended up throwing a one-hit shutout while striking out 12 over his 9 innings of work to earn his 10th win and extend his league-leading strikeout total to 136 in 112 1/3 innings this season. Third baseman Renato Nunez homered for the second straight night, hitting his 20th, a two-run shot in the top of the 6th to put the Sounds on the board, while catcher Matt McBride collected a pair of doubles, and shortstop Chad Pinder walked twice and singled in the only other run for the Sounds.

Third baseman Matt Chapman had a big night at the plate for the RockHounds on Saturday. 2014’s 1st-round draft pick for the A’s drilled a pair of home runs to go along with a triple while driving in a total of 6 runs on the night. Chapman is currently riding an eight-game hitting streak, during which he’s batting .406, and his 26 home runs, 75 RBIs and .507 slugging percentage all lead the Texas League. Catcher Beau Taylor, first baseman Josh Rodriguez and center fielder J.P. Sportman had a pair of hits apiece for the Hounds. Starter Corey Walter allowed 2 runs over 4 innings of work, while RHP Ben Bracewell was impressive in relief, throwing 5 shutout innings to earn his 7th win on Saturday.

With one out, a man on third and the game tied 2-2 in the bottom of the 12th inning, third baseman Renato Nunez singled for his third hit of the night to drive home the winning run as the Sounds won in a walk-off on Monday. Nunez also singled in the Sounds’ first run in the 6th inning, while shortstop Chad Pinder doubled twice and scored the winning run, and first baseman Rangel Ravelo and second baseman Joey Wendle had a pair of hits apiece for Nashville. Starter Chris Jensen turned in his strongest start since joining the Sounds, throwing 6 2/3 shutout innings before leaving the game with a slim 1-run lead. Nashville’s bullpen allowed Omaha to come back and tie the game in the 9th, but LHP Patrick Schuster threw 3 1/3 scoreless innings to shut down the Storm Chasers and give the Sounds the chance win it in the 12th and also earned his 1st win of the season along the way. In other news, the A’s claimed RHP Nick Tepesch off waivers from the Dodgers on Monday and designated Sounds LHP Eric Surkamp for assignment. And former Nashville starter Daniel Mengden allowed 2 runs over 7 2/3 innings for Oakland to earn his first major league win as the A’s beat the Giants 8-3 on Monday night. Designated hitter Chad Pinder belted a tie-breaking home run in the bottom of the 6th inning to lead the Sounds to victory on Saturday. Pinder now has 9 home runs on the season and 4 in his last 5 games for Nashville. Left fielder Matt McBride doubled in 2 runs to tie the game in the 2nd, and first baseman Ryon Healy had a pair of hits for the Sounds. Rehabbing starter Henderson Alvarez allowed 2 runs in 3 innings of work but had an unexpectedly early exit. After coming out to warm up for the 4th inning, he ended up leaving the field before the inning could begin after a visit from the trainer. RHP Aaron Kurcz stepped in and tossed 3 scoreless innings to earn his 3rd win, while RHP J.B. Wendelken got the final four outs to post his 5th save for the Sounds. Meanwhile, RHP Andrew Triggs was recalled by the A’s and Tyler Ladendorf was optioned back to Nashville on Saturday.

Designated hitter Ryan Roberts had another big night for Nashville on Tuesday. With the game tied in the top of the 12th, Roberts slugged his second home run of the game to provide the winning run for the Sounds. Roberts also hit a solo shot in the 4th and doubled in 2 runs in the 2nd, and he’s now hit 4 home runs in his last 4 games for Nashville. Starter Brad Mills allowed 6 runs over 4 1/3 innings of work, but the Sounds’ bullpen was solid. Relievers Ryan Dull, Pat Venditte, Angel Castro and Brock Huntzinger combined on 7 2/3 shutout innings, and Huntzinger picked up the win by tossing a scoreless 11th and 12th to close things out for the Sounds. Meanwhile, with Danny Valencia’s addition to the A’s roster, infielder Max Muncy was optioned back to Nashville.
