The RockHounds scored 7 runs on 16 hits to snap their four-game losing streak on Wednesday. J.P. Sportman, playing second base with Max Schrock on the disabled list, led the attack, collecting 3 hits, including his 6th home run, and driving in a pair of runs for Midland. Shortstop Yairo Munoz smacked his 3rd home run, and a number of players making their season debuts for the Hounds made key contributions as well. Catcher Beau Taylor, returning from a 50-game suspension, had 3 hits, including a triple, and drove in a run, while center fielder Kenny Wilson, who spent most of the season with the Sounds, singled, tripled and scored, and third baseman Jermaine Curtis, a minor league free agent signee who was sidelined with a hamstring injury in the spring, had a pair of doubles and drove in a run for Midland. The trio replaced three RockHounds who landed on the disabled list on Wednesday. Shortstop Richie Martin, who was hit in the head with a fastball in Tuesday’s game, is headed to Arizona for treatment after suffering a broken nose in the incident according to Hounds’ play-by-play man Bob Hards, while second baseman Max Schrock has been dealing with leg and foot injuries that caused him to miss four games last week, and RHP James Naile hasn’t pitched in over two weeks due to an abdominal strain. Meanwhile, back on the field, LHP Evan Manarino made his Double-A debut for Midland on Wednesday and allowed 2 runs on 9 hits over 6 innings of work to earn the win, while RHP Kyle Finnegan tossed 1 2/3 scoreless innings in relief to post his 7th save for the RockHounds.

After being down 4-0 heading into the 6th inning, Stockton came back to post a 12-4 win in Modesto on Monday as the Ports claimed the California League’s best record. Catcher Sean Murphy singled in the winning run in the 7th, hit a 2-run homer in the 8th, and also walked and scored a run in the 6th and doubled but was left stranded in the 4th. First baseman Chris Iriart belted a 3-run homer to tie the game in the 6th and doubled in a run in the 7th, while second baseman Josh Vidales collected 3 hits, including a double, and shortstop Eli White singled, doubled, walked twice and scored 3 times in the game. Center fielder Tyler Ramirez drove in 3 runs, and left fielder Brett Siddall singled twice and drove in a pair for the Ports. With a steady rain coming down in the 1st inning, starter Logan Shore surrendered 3 runs, but Shore settled in after that and ended up allowing 3 on 6 hits over 4 innings of work. His tandem-pitching partner, RHP Angel Duno, was solid in relief, giving the Ports a chance to come back and ultimately prevail. Duno allowed just 1 run over 4 innings and finished off his stint by retiring 11 straight batters to pick up the win as the Ports ran their record to 7-4. Meanwhile, Beloit RHP Boomer Biegalski was added to Stockton’s pitching staff on Monday, with RHP Daulton Jefferies landing on the disabled list.

After dropping their final two games at Tulsa, the RockHounds were able to put a win on the board in their first game at Springfield on Sunday. Designated hitter J.P. Sportman led the attack with 3 hits and 3 RBIs in the game and currently leads the team in both those categories. Sportman singled in Midland’s first run in the 3rd inning and later singled in 2 more runs for the RockHounds in the 8th. Center fielder B.J. Boyd doubled twice and drove in a pair in his return to action after missing three games due to food poisoning, while right fielder Tyler Marincov singled and homered for the Hounds. Starter James Naile allowed 2 runs over 4 innings of work, while his tandem-pitching partner, RHP Grant Holmes, gave up 2 runs and struck out 6 in 3 2/3 innings of relief to pick up the win. RHP Sam Bragg got the final four outs to earn the save on Sunday. And with Chad Pinder’s promotion to Oakland from Nashville, Midland infielder Melvin Mercedes was reassigned to the Sounds, and infielder Jean Carlo Rodriguez was added to the Rockhounds roster.

On Sunday, RHP Raul Alcantara turned in his fourth straight strong start since joining the Sounds last month, allowing just 1 run on 2 hits and 2 walks over 5 innings of work to earn his 3rd win for Nashville. And the 23-year-old has now allowed just 2 earned runs over his first 4 starts for the Sounds. First baseman Rangel Ravelo and shortstop Arismendy Alcantara hit back-to-back home runs in the 7th inning, while third baseman Renato Nunez singled, doubled and drove in a run, and second baseman Joey Wendle had 2 hits and drove in a pair to help the Sounds win their fourth straight. And with Oakland RHP Sonny Gray landing on the disabled list, 35-year-old Nashville RHP Chris Smith, who was second in strikeouts in the Pacific Coast League, was added to the A’s roster on Sunday.

With two outs, the bases loaded and the Sounds down by a run in the bottom of the 8th inning, center fielder Billy Burns stepped to the plate and singled in a pair of runs to provide the margin of victory for Nashville on Sunday. Burns collected 4 hits on the day, stole a base and scored twice, while right fielder Jaycob Brugman singled, doubled and also drove in a pair for the Sounds. Starter Dillon Overton was charged with 5 runs in 7 innings of work, while RHP Tucker Healy tossed a scoreless 8th to earn his 4th win, and LHP Patrick Schuster pitched a perfect 9th to pick up his 6th save for the Sounds. And with RHP Jesse Hahn’s return to the A’s on Sunday, Arismendy Alcantara was optioned back to Nashville.

RHP Raul Alcantara turned in an impressive start in his Triple-A debut on Friday, allowing just 1 unearned run on 4 hits over 7 innings of work, but he left with the game a 1-1 tie. RHP Ryan Doolittle tossed a scoreless 8th, while RHP Tucker Healy pitched a perfect 9th to pick up the win as the Sounds won their third straight. Third baseman Renato Nunez singled and hit his 14th home run to tie the game in the home half of the 4th, while center fielder Billy Burns had a pair of hits, and shortstop Chad Pinder singled and scored the winning run on a wild pitch in the bottom of the 9th as the Sounds won in a walk-off on Friday. In other news, Nashville catcher Bruce Maxwell is scheduled to fly to the Bay Area on Saturday morning to make his major league debut for the A’s.

With two men on and the game tied in the top of the 8th inning, right fielder Matt Olson ripped a 3-run homer to provide the margin of victory for Nashville on Friday. Olson also singled, doubled, walked and drove in a total of 4 runs in the game. Catcher Bruce Maxwell homered for the second straight night, while center fielder Jaycob Brugman collected 4 hits, including a double, and drove in a run, and left fielder Arismendy Alcantara doubled, singled twice, stole a base and drove in 3. Starter Jesse Hahn allowed 3 runs over 6 innings of work, and RHP Aaron Kurcz picked up the win despite giving up the tying run in the bottom of the 7th as the Sounds won their third straight. In roster news, infielder Ryon Healy was promoted to the A’s, while outfielder Billy Burns was optioned back to Nashville, and RHP Nick Tepesch was designated for assignment. Catcher Carson Blair was given his release and catcher Bryan Anderson rejoined the Sounds from the RockHounds on Friday. Healy went 0 for 4 while batting ninth and playing third base for the A’s in his major league debut on Friday.

RHP Casey Meisner had his third straight shaky start for the Ports, allowing 3 runs on 8 hits and 3 walks over 5 innings of work to suffer his 6th loss, while RHP Carlos Navas surrendered another 4 runs in 1 2/3 innings of relief. The Ports managed just 6 hits in the game. Shortstop Melvin Mercedes singled, doubled and walked twice, while first baseman John Nogowski singled in Stockton’s only run in the loss.

19-year-old Venezuelan third baseman Jean Carlo Rodriguez had a big day at the plate for the Arizona League A’s on Friday. Rodriguez had 4 hits, including a triple and a double, and drove in 4 runs, including the go-ahead run for the A’s in the bottom of the 3rd. First baseman Miguel Guzman singled, doubled and drove in 3, while left fielder Shane Conlon walked and doubled in a run in the win. This year’s 3rd-round draft pick for the A’s, 18-year-old RHP Dakota Chalmers, allowed 1 unearned run and struck out 3 in 1 2/3 innings to start things off on Friday, while rehabbing RHP Ryan Brasier tossed 1 1/3 scoreless innings to earn his 1st win, and 19-year-old Venezuelan RHP Argenis Blanco contributed 4 scoreless frames in relief for the A’s.

Outfielder Jaycob Brugman reached base 5 times, on 3 singles, a double and a walk, while driving in 3 runs to help the RockHounds win and clinch a berth in the Texas League playoffs on Thursday. First baseman Anthony Aliotti had a pair of singles and a pair of doubles and drove in a run, while third baseman Renato Nunez singled, doubled and drove in a pair in his return from the disabled list, and second baseman Wade Kirkland collected 3 hits, including a double, and drove in a run for the RockHounds. Starter Dillon Overton had his second straight scoreless outing for Midland on Thursday, scattering 3 hits over 5 shutout innings to earn his 4th win for the RockHounds. In other news, Hounds shortstop Chad Pinder was named the Texas League Player of the Year on Thursday. Pinder has put up an impressive .320/.362/.491 slash line in 113 games and currently leads the Texas League in hits (148), RBIs (86) and total bases (227). In addition, Midland second baseman Colin Walsh, third baseman Ryon Healy and RHP Ryan Dull were all named to the Texas League Postseason All-Star Team.
