Stockton went down to defeat on Friday to suffer a three-game sweep in their best-of-five playoff series with Modesto. Center fielder Skye Bolt provided the Ports with both their runs on the night, singling in Stockton’s first run in the 5th inning and then slugging a solo shot in the 7th. First baseman Mikey White had 2 hits, including a double, while shortstop Eli White doubled, walked and scored a run for Stockton. Starter Evan Manarino had a rough outing, allowing 6 runs, 4 earned, in just 3 innings of work to suffer the loss as Stockton saw its season come to an end on Friday.

The RockHounds won their final home game of the regular season to snap their six-game losing streak and reduce their magic number for a playoff berth to three with just three games remaining. Shortstop Jorge Mateo had another big night at the plate, collecting 4 hits, including a triple, while scoring 4 runs, driving in a pair and swiping a base. It was the 22-year-old’s 18th triple and 52nd stolen base of the season, and Mateo is now hitting .450 over his last 4 games for Midland. Center fielder B.J. Boyd drove in 4 runs while notching 3 hits, including a pair of doubles, to take back the Texas League batting lead by raising his average to a robust .329. First baseman Viosergy Rosa walked, singled in a run and slugged a 3-run homer to extend his league-leading RBI total to 110, while designated hitter Jermaine Curtis walked, singled twice and doubled in a run for the RockHounds. RHP James Naile turned in his third straight quality start, allowing just 2 unearned runs and striking out 5 over 6 frames to earn his 2nd win of the season on Friday.

Catcher Josh Phegley had the biggest game of his rehab assignment with the Sounds on Saturday, collecting 3 hits, including a home run and a double, while driving in 3 runs. He homered to put Nashville on the board in the bottom of the 3rd inning, doubled in the tying run and 7th, and then singled in another run in the 9th. But the Sounds still came up a run short to snap their three-game winning streak on Saturday. First baseman Chris Carter slugged his 6th home run, while center fielder Yairo Munoz had 2 hits, including a double, and drove in a run, and second baseman Joey Wendle singled, walked and stole a base. Starter Chris Jensen allowed 5 runs over 5 frames, while RHP Logan Bawcom surrendered 2 runs in 2 innings of relief to suffer the loss for the Sounds.

With two men on and the game tied in the bottom of the 9th, shortstop Jorge Mateo stepped to the plate and laced a single to right field to drive home the winning run as the RockHounds won in a walk-off to notch their fifth straight victory on Friday. Mateo also doubled in a run in the 2nd and hit a 2-run homer in the 4th for the Hounds. Designated hitter Tyler Marincov singled, doubled and drove in 2 runs, while second baseman Max Schrock and left fielder Tyler Ramirez had a pair of hits apiece for Midland. Starter Casey Meisner allowed 1 run in 4 innings of work, while RHP Tyler Sturdevant picked up the win despite giving up 3 runs, 2 earned, in 1 inning of relief for the RockHounds. Meanwhile, Midland RHP Dustin Hurlbutt landed on the disabled list with a right shoulder strain and RHP Kyle Finnegan was reassigned to the RockHounds from the Sounds on Friday.

Second baseman Franklin Barreto continued his hot hitting of late, collecting 3 hits, including a home run and a double, and the 21-year-old has now gone 12 for 20 over his last 5 games for the Sounds. First baseman Matt Olson doubled, hit his 22nd home run and drove in 3, while left fielder Renato Nunez walked, doubled, drilled his minor-league-leading 28th homer and drove in a pair, and designated hitter Chris Carter walked and slugged a 2-run shot for the Sounds. Starter Corey Walter gave up 2 runs in 3 1/3 innings of work, and RHP Chris Bassitt picked up the win despite allowing 2 runs in 2 innings of relief for Nashville.

The Ports prevailed by an impressive margin for the third straight night on Sunday. LHP Evan Manarino turned in one of his best starts of the season, striking out 7 without allowing a walk while throwing 7 shutout innings for Stockton, and undrafted free agent LHP Brandon Marsonek tossed 2 scoreless innings in relief to complete the 7-hit shutout on Sunday. Ports batters continued their recent offensive outburst by blasting five home runs in the game. First baseman Sandber Pimentel had 3 hits and homered for the second straight night, while shortstop Sheldon Neuse homered for the third time in the last three days, belting a 3-run blast to put the Ports on the board in the 4th. Center fielder Luis Barrera slugged a solo shot, and catcher Argenis Raga and left fielder Brett Siddall both singled, homered and drove in a pair for the Ports.

Sportman singled in a run in the 7th inning and slugged a grand slam in the 8th, while center fielder B.J. Nunez also singled in a run in the 5th, while center fielder Yairo Munoz collected 4 hits, including a double, and drove in the tying run in the top of the 8th. Second baseman Joey Wendle had 3 hits, including a triple, and shortstop Franklin Barreto walked, stole a base and belted his 10th home run for the Sounds. The Lake Monsters notched their sixth straight win, this one in a walk-off, on Sunday. This year’s 4th-round draft pick for the A’s, third baseman Will Toffey, had 2 hits, including a double, drew a pair of walks and drove in the tying and winning runs with two outs in the bottom of the 9th to give Vermont the victory. Second baseman Ryan Gridley doubled in a run and walked twice, while right fielder Anthony Churlin had a pair of hits, and catcher Jordan Devencenzi singled, walked and drove in a run for Vermont. 7th-round RHP Parker Dunshee made the start and tossed 2 2/3 scoreless innings, while RHPs Bryce Conley and Wyatt Marks both allowed 2 runs in relief, and RHP Marc Berube picked up the win after tossing a scoreless top of the 9th for the Lake Monsters. Meanwhile, 2nd-round outfielder Greg Deichmann and 9th-round LHP Jared Poche, both out of LSU, were officially added to Vermont’s roster on Sunday.
