With two men on and the game tied in the top of the 8th inning, right fielder Matt Olson ripped a 3-run homer to provide the margin of victory for Nashville on Friday. Olson also singled, doubled, walked and drove in a total of 4 runs in the game. Catcher Bruce Maxwell homered for the second straight night, while center fielder Jaycob Brugman collected 4 hits, including a double, and drove in a run, and left fielder Arismendy Alcantara doubled, singled twice, stole a base and drove in 3. Starter Jesse Hahn allowed 3 runs over 6 innings of work, and RHP Aaron Kurcz picked up the win despite giving up the tying run in the bottom of the 7th as the Sounds won their third straight. In roster news, infielder Ryon Healy was promoted to the A’s, while outfielder Billy Burns was optioned back to Nashville, and RHP Nick Tepesch was designated for assignment. Catcher Carson Blair was given his release and catcher Bryan Anderson rejoined the Sounds from the RockHounds on Friday. Healy went 0 for 4 while batting ninth and playing third base for the A’s in his major league debut on Friday.

On a night with a number of solid pitching performances throughout the A’s system, the best effort of the night was turned in by a hurler whose team dropped its seventh straight. Stockton starter Kyle Friedrichs continued his impressive run for the Ports by allowing just 3 hits while walking none and striking out 9 over 7 shutout innings and he left the game with a 1-run lead on Sunday. But RHP Carlos Navas surrendered 2 runs in the bottom of the 9th to blow the save opportunity, suffer his 4th loss and extend Stockton’s losing streak to seven straight games. But with Sunday’s performance, Friedrichs has now allowed just 2 runs while walking 1 and striking out 17 in 19 innings over his last 3 starts. Stockton scored just 1 run on 4 hits on Sunday. Second baseman Mikey White and designated hitter James Harris had a pair of hits apiece for the Ports.

While the RockHounds got big contributions from a trio of hitters, it was RHP Daniel Gossett’s effort on the mound that kept the game firmly in Midland’s control on Friday. Gossett turned in one of his best starts since joining the Hounds, allowing 2 earned runs on 5 hits while walking just 1 and striking out 6 over 7 1/3 innings to earn his 1st win with Midland. He was also charged with a pair of unearned runs after departing the game with two outs in the bottom of the 8th, and RHP Jake Sanchez got the final three outs in the 9th to notch his 5th save. Right fielder Tyler Marincov collected 4 hits, including a home run, and drove in 2 runs, while designated hitter Carson Blair singled, homered and drove in a pair, and third baseman Matt Chapman tagged a 2-run homer to help the Hounds win their third straight on Friday.

Catcher Carson Blair had his biggest game since returning from the disabled list almost two weeks ago, slugging a pair of home runs to help the RockHounds win on Thursday. His first round-tripper was a solo shot in the 2nd inning to put the Hounds on the board and his second was a 2-run homer in the 6th to give his team the lead, which it never relinquished. Third baseman Matt Chapman smacked his league-leading 18th home run in the 5th and also doubled and scored an insurance run in the 9th for the RockHounds. Starter Ben Bracewell allowed 3 runs, 2 earned, over 5 innings of work to earn his 4th win, while RHP Bobby Wahl tossed a scoreless 9th to secure his 2nd save for the Hounds.

RHP Kyle Friedrichs turned in his fourth straight quality start for Stockton, allowing 5 hits while walking none and striking out 8 over 6 shutout innings to earn his 3rd win on Thursday. And Friedrichs has now struck out 31 while failing to allow a walk in 25 innings over his last 4 starts for the Ports. Relievers Cody Stull, Lou Trivino and Carlos Navas each tossed 1 scoreless inning in relief to close out the 6-hit shutout for Stockton. Catcher Iolana Akau singled, doubled and drove in a run, while shortstop Richie Martin and second baseman Mikey White each drove in a pair for the Ports. Meanwhile, A’s LHP Sean Manaea is scheduled to make Friday’s start on a rehab assignment with Stockton.

And last year’s 24th-round draft pick for the A’s has now failed to allow an earned run in his first two starts of the season. RHP Dustin Driver gave up 2 runs, 1 earned, in 2 innings of relief, and RHP Jordan Schwartz struck out all three batters he faced in the 9th to notch his 1st career save. First baseman Miguel Mercedes smashed his 2nd home run, a 3-run shot in the 3rd, while right fielder Jhonny Rodriguez had 3 hits, including a double, and drove in a run in the 9th. A number of the A’s 2016 draft picks made their Vermont debuts on Wednesday. 3rd-round catcher Sean Murphy went 0 for 5 with 3 strikeouts, while 5th-round third baseman JaVon Shelby singled, doubled, walked, stole a base and scored twice. 11th-round shortstop Eli White singled in 2 at-bats, and 13th-round second baseman Nate Mondou, serving as the designated hitter for the night, went 0 for 4 and drove in a run on a groundout. Overton has now failed to allow a run in his last 25 1/3 innings and has earned the win in each of his last 7 starts for Nashville. RHP Tucker Healy tossed 1 2/3 scoreless innings in relief to complete the 6-hit shutout and post his 4th save for the Sounds. Center fielder Tyler Ladendorf collected 3 hits, including a double, while catcher Bruce Maxwell double in a pair of runs, and Josh Reddick, serving as the designated hitter and batting second, went 0 for 4 and struck out twice in his first rehab appearance with the Sounds. Designated hitter Chad Pinder belted a tie-breaking home run in the bottom of the 6th inning to lead the Sounds to victory on Saturday. Pinder now has 9 home runs on the season and 4 in his last 5 games for Nashville. Left fielder Matt McBride doubled in 2 runs to tie the game in the 2nd, and first baseman Ryon Healy had a pair of hits for the Sounds. Rehabbing starter Henderson Alvarez allowed 2 runs in 3 innings of work but had an unexpectedly early exit. After coming out to warm up for the 4th inning, he ended up leaving the field before the inning could begin after a visit from the trainer. RHP Aaron Kurcz stepped in and tossed 3 scoreless innings to earn his 3rd win, while RHP J.B. Wendelken got the final four outs to post his 5th save for the Sounds. Meanwhile, RHP Andrew Triggs was recalled by the A’s and Tyler Ladendorf was optioned back to Nashville on Saturday.

Left fielder Colin Walsh’s one-out double in the bottom of the 10th inning led to the Sounds winning in a walk-off on Friday. Joey Wendle pinch-ran for Walsh and then came in to score the winning run after two wild pitches. Walsh had 3 hits, including a pair of doubles, and also drove in the first run for the Sounds in the 4th inning. Center fielder Jaycob Brugman singled, doubled and drove in a run, while second baseman Arismendy Alcantara singled and swiped a pair of of bases for the Sounds. Pacific Coast League strikeout leader Chris Smith allowed 3 runs and struck out 4 over 5 innings of work, while RHP Eduard Santos gave up 1 run in 1 1/3 innings of relief, and RHP Ryan Brasier picked up the win after tossing a scoreless frame in the top of the 10th for Nashville.

LHP Dillon Overton turned in his third straight quality start on Wednesday, allowing just 2 unearned runs on 4 hits while walking 1 and striking out 6 to earn his 7th win for the Sounds. And with quality starting pitching options in short supply in Oakland, Overton’s solid string of performances could be coming at just the right time. Nashville’s lineup helped make things a little easier for Overton by exploding for 16 runs on Wednesday. Left fielder Andrew Lambo collected 4 hits, including a triple, and drove in 5 runs, while shortstop Chad Pinder singled twice and slugged his second home run in the last two days, a 2-run shot, for the Sounds. First baseman Rangel Ravelo singled, homered and drove in 3 runs, and third baseman Ryon Healy had 3 hits, including a double, and also drove in 3. Meanwhile, Midland RHP Chris Jensen was promoted to Nashville and RHP James Naile was was reassigned to the RockHounds on Wednesday.
