The RockHounds won their final home game of the regular season to snap their six-game losing streak and reduce their magic number for a playoff berth to three with just three games remaining. Shortstop Jorge Mateo had another big night at the plate, collecting 4 hits, including a triple, while scoring 4 runs, driving in a pair and swiping a base. It was the 22-year-old’s 18th triple and 52nd stolen base of the season, and Mateo is now hitting .450 over his last 4 games for Midland. Center fielder B.J. Boyd drove in 4 runs while notching 3 hits, including a pair of doubles, to take back the Texas League batting lead by raising his average to a robust .329. First baseman Viosergy Rosa walked, singled in a run and slugged a 3-run homer to extend his league-leading RBI total to 110, while designated hitter Jermaine Curtis walked, singled twice and doubled in a run for the RockHounds. RHP James Naile turned in his third straight quality start, allowing just 2 unearned runs and striking out 5 over 6 frames to earn his 2nd win of the season on Friday.

The Snappers snapped their three-game losing streak by sweeping a doubleheader from Burlington on Monday. Designated hitter Kyle Nowlin reached base 4 times, on a pair of singles, a double and a walk, while also driving in a run and scoring twice. Center fielder JaVon Shelby singled and homered, while second baseman Josh Vidales singled, walked twice and scored twice, and right fielder Luke Persico singled in 2 runs, including the winning run for the Snappers. Starter Zack Erwin gave up 2 runs over 4 1/3 frames, while RHP Joseph Camacho allowed 1 run 2 2/3 innings of relief to pick up the win. In other news, Erwin was named the Midwest League Pitcher of the Week on Monday after throwing 6 no-hit innings in Beloit’s no-hitter against Quad Cities on Wednesday.

With the bases loaded, two outs and the Ports down by a pair of runs in the top of the 3rd inning, first baseman Seth Brown stepped to the plate and slugged a grand slam off rehabbing Giants RHP Johnny Cueto to give Stockton a lead it would never surrender on Sunday. Brown also singled in another run for the Ports in the 4th to extend his league-leading RBI total to 99, while his 26 home runs are good for second in the league. Starter Dalton Sawyer allowed 5 runs while striking out 8 over 5 frames to pick up his 5th win for the Ports, while RHP Nolan Blackwood pitched a perfect 9th to notch his 18th save for Stockton.

20-year-old Colombian RHP Jean Ruiz turned in an outstanding start to help the Lake Monsters score their sixth win in their last seven games on Monday. Ruiz allowed just 1 hit and 1 walk while throwing 6 shutout innings to earn the victory for Vermont, and he’s now allowed just 6 earned runs over 42 innings of work to post an impressive 1.29 ERA for the Lake Monsters this season. Right fielder Greg Deichmann drew a pair of walks and drilled a 3-run homer, while first baseman Aaron Arruda homered and doubled. Center fielder Logan Farrar singled twice, doubled and drove in 3 runs, and third baseman Will Toffey had 3 hits and scored 3 runs for the Lake Monsters.

The 30-year-old slugger singled, tripled, homered, walked and drove in 5 runs, including the tying and winning runs in the top of the 8th for the Sounds. Third baseman Renato Nunez singled twice and scored 3 times, while catcher Beau Taylor walked and singled in a run. Starter Ben Bracewell picked up the win despite surrendering 5 runs in 7 innings of work, while RHP Raul Alcantara tossed 2 scoreless innings in relief to secure his 3rd save for the Sounds.

Brown tripled and scored a run in the 4th inning and then slugged a solo shot in the 6th. The blast was Brown’s team-leading 20th home run of the season. Shortstop Sheldon Neuse singled, homered and drove in a pair of runs for the Ports, and Brown and Neuse have both belted 3 home runs over their last 3 games for Stockton. Starter Norge Ruiz allowed 3 runs over 6 innings of work to earn his 3rd win, while RHP Nolan Blackwood tossed 1 1/3 scoreless innings in relief to secure his 13th save for Stockton.

Five home runs helped the Sounds win a slugfest in Reno on Saturday. First baseman Matt Olson reached base 4 times, collecting 3 hits, including his 23rd home run, while also drawing a walk, and Olson has now gone 7 for 18 with 3 home runs and 5 RBIs over his last 4 games for the Sounds. Center fielder Yairo Munoz singled, homered and drove in 4 runs, while third baseman Renato Nunez doubled, walked, hit his minor-league-leading 29th home run and drove in a pair. Shortstop Franklin Barreto singled and homered, and designated hitter Chris Carter doubled, walked and hit a 2-run homer for the Sounds. Starter Ben Bracewell gave up 8 runs over 3 2/3 innings of work, while LHP Felix Doubront tossed 1 2/3 scoreless innings in relief to notch his 2nd win for Nashville. Meanwhile, former Sounds catcher Ryan Lavarnway was designated for assignment by the A’s, and Nashville RHPs Jesse Hahn and Tucker Healy were both placed on the disabled list on Saturday. Hahn suffered a lat strain while Healy is dealing with a bicep strain.

The Ports prevailed by an impressive margin for the third straight night on Sunday. LHP Evan Manarino turned in one of his best starts of the season, striking out 7 without allowing a walk while throwing 7 shutout innings for Stockton, and undrafted free agent LHP Brandon Marsonek tossed 2 scoreless innings in relief to complete the 7-hit shutout on Sunday. Ports batters continued their recent offensive outburst by blasting five home runs in the game. First baseman Sandber Pimentel had 3 hits and homered for the second straight night, while shortstop Sheldon Neuse homered for the third time in the last three days, belting a 3-run blast to put the Ports on the board in the 4th. Center fielder Luis Barrera slugged a solo shot, and catcher Argenis Raga and left fielder Brett Siddall both singled, homered and drove in a pair for the Ports.

Yairo Munoz had a big game while making his eighth career start in center field for the Sounds on Tuesday. The 22-year-old collected 3 hits, including a home run, and is now 8 for 16 with a pair of home runs over his last 4 games for Nashville. Third baseman Renato Nunez doubled twice and singled, while right fielder Mark Canha had 2 hits, including a double, stole a base and drove in a pair, and designated hitter Chad Pinder went 1 for 5 with 3 strikeouts in his first rehab appearance for the Sounds. After turning in a pair of quality starts in his last two appearances for Nashville, RHP Ben Bracewell had a rough outing on Tuesday, allowing 10 runs, 8 earned, in just 2 2/3 innings of work to suffer the loss as the Sounds lost their third straight. In addition to Pinder, RHPs Kendall Graveman and Jharel Cotton have also joined Nashville on rehab assignments and both are expected to make appearances for the Sounds on Wednesday.

Loehr had 4 hits, including a triple and a double, while driving in a pair of runs, and the 22-year-old has now gone 10 for 20 over his last 4 games for Beloit. Second baseman Jesus Lopez singled twice and drove in a run, while designated hitter Jason Goldstein had 2 hits and drove in a pair, and left fielder Josh Vidales singled twice, walked twice and scored twice for the Snappers. Starter Kyle Twomey allowed 3 runs, 2 earned, over 5 innings of work, while RHP Jesus Zambrano gave up 3 runs in 2 innings of relief, and RHP Yordys Alejo pitched 2 perfect innings to pick up his 3rd win for Beloit.
