Prospect Of The Game:

Designated Hitter – Pitcher John Nogowski

(3 for 6 / Double / GWRBI – 1 IP / 0 H / 0 ER / 2 BB / 1 K / Win)

John Nogowski accomplished something fairly rare in Stockton’s season finale on Monday night. He drove in the winning run to make himself the winning pitcher for the Ports. Nogowski threw a scoreless frame in the top of the 12th inning, then came up with two outs and two men on in the bottom of the 12th and singled in the winning run to make himself the winning pitcher on Monday. Nogowski had also singled, doubled and scored twice in the game, while first baseman Chris Iriart singled, doubled, homered, walked and drove in 3 runs to help the Ports finish the season on a high note. This year’s 10th-round draft pick for the A’s, RHP Mitchell Jordan, was charged with 4 runs in 3 innings of work in his first start for Stockton. And with the win, the Ports finished the season with a 60-80 record.

Rodriguez ripped a pair of home runs, tagging a 2-run shot in the top of the 4th inning to break a 2-2 tie and briefly give the Sounds a 2-run edge and then drilling a 3-run drive in the 8th inning to extend his team’s lead. Brugman had 4 hits in the game, including a big 3-run homer to break a 6-6 tie in the 7th. Prospect Of The Game:

Pitcher Jesse Hahn

(4 IP / 2 H / 1 ER / 3 BB / 6 K)

It was a day filled with lots of intriguing roster news for Nashville fans. But on the field, it was the first chance for Jesse Hahn to return to the mound since he landed on the disabled list after his last start for Oakland. Hahn allowed just 1 run while striking out 6 over 4 innings of work on Tuesday. He left the game with a one-run lead and turned the game over to the Sounds bullpen, which held Tacoma scoreless over the next 5 frames. RHP Angel Castro earned his 1st win of the season, while RHP Tucker Healy got the final three outs to notch his 8th save for Nashville. The Sounds managed just 3 hits in the win. Catcher Matt McBride singled in a run, while right fielder Jaycob Brugman walked, singled and scored a run when designated hitter Rangel Ravelo was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Renato Nunez made his second start in the last three days in left field and went 0 for 4 in the game. Meanwhile, the Texas League’s top home run hitter, third baseman Matt Chapman, was added to the Sounds roster on Tuesday. And with Chapman’s addition to the squad, there’s a need for Nunez to increase his versatility. The San Francisco Chronicle and other sources also reported on Tuesday that Nashville shortstop Chad Pinder was set to join the A’s on Wednesday, and Josh Rodriguez made the start at shortstop for the Sounds on Tuesday. And in other news, Nashville reliever Ryan Doolittle was sent to the Arizona League A’s.

The 24-year-old came within one out of throwing a perfect game before allowing a two-out triple in the bottom of the 9th. Cotton still ended up throwing a one-hit shutout while striking out 12 over his 9 innings of work to earn his 10th win and extend his league-leading strikeout total to 136 in 112 1/3 innings this season. Third baseman Renato Nunez homered for the second straight night, hitting his 20th, a two-run shot in the top of the 6th to put the Sounds on the board, while catcher Matt McBride collected a pair of doubles, and shortstop Chad Pinder walked twice and singled in the only other run for the Sounds.

Healy’s home run and double on Tuesday now give him a total of 46 extra-base hits on the season, which is tops among all A’s minor leaguers. Shortstop Chad Pinder and catcher Bruce Maxwell also homered in the win, while Max Muncy, making his first start at second base in the A’s system, walked, doubled, singled twice and scored twice, and left fielder Colin Walsh walked and singled in a run in his first game since returning from the disabled list.
