Starter Sonny Gray got off to another good start on Thursday, allowing just 1 unearned run before leaving the game in the 7th inning with the bases loaded. RHP Travis Banwart then allowed a bases-clearing double, leaving Gray to be saddled with 4 runs, 3 earned, over 6 2/3 innings and his 2nd loss. Left fielder Jeremy Barfield doubled and drove in a run, while center fielder Chris Young, making his first rehab appearance with Sacramento, reached base in all 3 of his trips to the plate, singling, walking twice, stealing a base and scoring the River Cats’ first run of the game.

Outfielder Jeremy Barfield belted his 2nd home run since joining Sacramento and drove in 5 runs, while catcher Stephen Vogt drove in 2 and designated hitter Grant Green collected a pair of doubles for the River Cats.

RHP Sonny Gray had another strong start on Saturday, this time in front of a hometown crowd in Nashville, the city where he was born and where he starred for Vanderbilt University before being drafted by the A’s. Gray tossed 6 scoreless innings to earn his 4th win and lower his ERA to 2.19. Left fielder Scott Moore collected 3 hits, including a pair of doubles, while center fielder Michael Choice slugged his 7th home run and drove in 3 runs for the River Cats. Starter Josh Bowman allowed 5 runs, just 1 earned, over 5 innings of work. The 4 unearned runs came after shortstop Dusty Coleman’s throwing error in the bottom of the 2nd inning. Outfielder Chad Oberacker homered in the top of the 1st inning to put Midland on the board, while outfielder Jake Goebbert’s home run tied the game in the 5th, but RHP Mike DeMark surrendered a run in the 6th to take the loss. With outfielder Jeremy Barfield’s elevation to Sacramento, outfielder Josh Whitaker was promoted to Midland and, while serving as the designated hitter, drove in a run on a sacrifice fly in his debut with the RockHounds. He’ll be joined there by A’s starter Brett Anderson, who is set to begin a rehab assignment with Midland.

Shortstop Addison Russell homered for the second straight night and drove in 3 runs for the Ports. In other news, with RHP Pedro Vidal’s promotion to Sacramento, RHP Brett Hunter has been added to the Ports’ roster from extended spring training.

Starter Sergio Perez was charged with 9 earned runs in just 1 inning of work to take the loss, while RHP T.J. Walz and LHP Omar Duran combined to give up another 10 runs. Shortstop Addison Russell had a big game, collecting a double, a triple and a home run, falling just a single short of a cycle, and driving in 3 runs. Outfielder Bobby Crocker had a pair of doubles and drove in 4 runs, while outfielder Josh Whitaker and designated hitter Ryan Delgado both homered in the loss.
