Kyle McCann’s continued hot hitting helped the RockHounds take their second straight from Tulsa on Saturday. The 24-year-old homered in the 1st inning to give his team an early edge and then slugged his second solo shot of the game in the 7th inning. The A’s selected the backstop as their 4th-round pick in 2019 but, this season, he’s split time between catcher and first base, where he made the start on Saturday. McCann has had a breakthrough season with Midland in 2022. He leads the squad with 17 home runs while slashing .257/.373/.498 this season and has gone 5 for 14 with 3 home runs, a double and 5 RBIs over his last 3 games for the RockHounds. Designated hitter Jordan Diaz singled in the tying run in the top of the 3rd inning and hit his 15th home run in the 9th. LHP David Leal turned in a strong start, allowing just 2 runs on 2 hits, both home runs, over 7 innings of work to earn the win, while RHP Chase Cohen tossed 2 scoreless innings in relief to record the save for the RockHounds.
