Lansing lost its second straight to Fort Wayne on Wednesday, but first baseman Tyler Soderstrom had a big game for the Lugnuts. The A’s 1st-round draft pick in 2020 singled, walked and hit his team-leading 15th home run as well as his team-leading 17th double to raise his OPS to .802. Last year’s 4th-round pick for the A’s, center fielder Denzel Clarke, singled, walked and slugged a two-run homer, while third baseman Jack Winkler singled, doubled, drew a walk and drove in 3 runs for the Lugnuts. 22-year-old Venezuelan RHP Christian Fernandez, acquired from Tampa Bay in the Christian Bethancourt trade, made his first start for Lansing and allowed 4 runs in 3 innings of work, while RHP Trayson Kubo was charged with 1 run in the 9th to take the loss for the Lugnuts.

Las Vegas had its three-game winning streak snapped by Salt Lake on Wednesday. Center fielder Cristian Pache homered in the 1st inning and doubled in another run in the 8th to raise his batting average to .368 (14 for 38), and he’s now notched 6 doubles, 2 home runs and 9 RBIs in his first 9 games with the Aviators. Third baseman Nate Mondou singled, homered, drew a walk and drove in a pair of runs, while right fielder Cal Stevenson, acquired from Tampa Bay in the Christian Bethancourt trade, tripled twice, walked and scored 3 runs in his second game for Las Vegas, and designated hitter Jonah Bride went 0 for 2 with a pair of walks in his first rehab game with the Aviators. Starter Jack Cushing suffered through his fourth straight rough start, surrendering 7 runs, 6 earned, in just 2 innings of work to take the loss for Las Vegas.
