LHP Jesus Luzardo led Las Vegas to victory on Friday as the Aviators took a 2-1 edge in their best-of-five playoff series with Sacramento. Luzardo made the start in Game #3 and allowed just 1 run while striking out 7 over 5 2/3 frames to earn the victory for Vegas. The 21-year-old southpaw was pulled after throwing 91 pitches, 58 of which landed for strikes. Center fielder Skye Bolt homered for the third time in the series while also doubling and driving in 3 runs. Left fielder Mark Payton also homered and doubled while driving in a pair of runs, and catcher Dustin Garneau singled, doubled, drew a pair of walks and drove in 3 runs for Las Vegas. Meanwhile, RHP Grant Holmes is set to make the start for the Aviators on Saturday.

The RockHounds suffered a loss to the Sod Poodles on Friday and now hold a 2-1 lead in their best-of-five playoff series. RHP Brian Howard made the start and was charged with 5 runs over 6 innings of work to take the loss. Third baseman Taylor Motter walked, stole a base and singled in a run in the 1st inning to give Midland an early edge, while right fielder Greg Deichmann notched a pair of hits, and second baseman Nate Mondou doubled for the RockHounds’ only extra-base hit in the loss. Meanwhile, RHP Mitchell Jordan is likely to make the start for Midland on Saturday.
