Second Baseman Sheldon Neuse

With two outs and the game tied in the bottom of the 7th inning, second baseman Sheldon Neuse stepped to the plate and slugged his 24th home run to provide the margin of victory on Saturday and help Las Vegas move back into a first-place tie with El Paso in the Pacific Southern Division. Neuse is now 7 for 17 with a pair of home runs over his last 4 games, has compiled a slugging percentage of .632 in the month of August, and now leads the league with 148 hits on the season. Center fielder Dustin Fowler singled twice and drove in a run, while first baseman Seth Brown doubled with the bases loaded to drive in 3 runs and drove in another run with a sacrifice fly to increase his league-leading RBI total to 101. RHP Matt Harvey made his first start for Las Vegas on Saturday and was solid, allowing just 2 hits while walking none and striking out 5 over 4 scoreless frames for the Aviators. RHP Tanner Anderson gave up 5 runs in 2 2/3 innings of relief to tie the game, while LHP Kyle Lobstein got the final out in the top of the 7th inning to pick up the win. LHP A.J. Puk set down the side in order in the 8th while notching a pair of strikeouts and throwing just 11 pitches, and RHP Kyle Finnegan got the final three outs in the 9th to secure the save for the Aviators. Meanwhile, LHP Sean Manaea is set to make the start for Las Vegas on Sunday.

The RockHounds suffered a one-run loss to the Hooks on Saturday. Starter Matt Milburn allowed 2 runs over 6 innings of work for Midland. And with his team down by a run and two outs in the 7th inning, third baseman Mikey White belted his 8th home run to tie the game, but RHP Seth Martinez gave up 1 run in 2 innings of relief to record the loss for the RockHounds.

Center fielder Devin Foyle tripled in a run, walked twice, scored twice and stole a base, while third baseman Max Schuemann singled twice, drew a walk, drove in a run and swiped a pair of bases to increase his team-leading total to 20.

This year’s 33rd-round draft pick for the A’s, RHP Charles Hall, made the start and struck out 6 over 4 scoreless frames, while rehabbing LHP Cody Stull allowed 1 run in 2 innings of relief to suffer the loss, and rehabbing catcher Sean Murphy went 2 for 3 in his second rehab game for the A’s.
