After going down to defeat in the first game of their divisional playoff series with Visalia on Wednesday, the Ports prevailed in a one-run contest to take the second game of the best-of-five series on Thursday. Center fielder Chase Calabuig doubled in a run in the bottom of the 1st inning to give Stockton an early lead that it would never surrender. Calabuig, who was this year’s 27th-round draft pick for the A’s, then slugged his first pro home run in the 4th inning and also walked and scored a run in the 8th. First baseman Viosergy Rosa singled twice, walked twice and drove in a run, while third baseman Edwin Diaz tripled in 2 runs. Designated hitter Sandber Pimentel had 2 hits, including a double, drew a walk and drove in a run, and right fielder Brett Siddall singled twice, walked and drove in a pair for the Ports. Stockton starter Wyatt Marks was charged with 4 runs in 4 frames of work, while RHP Jake Bray threw 1 1/3 scoreless innings in relief to earn the win, and RHP Sam Sheehan got the final two outs in the 9th to pick up the save for the Ports.

After being delayed a day by rain, the Snappers went down to defeat in the first game of their best-of-three playoff series with the Kernels on Thursday. Starter Jared Poche surrendered 4 runs over 2 1/3 frames to suffer the loss, while RHPs Brandon Withers and Joseph Camacho combined to give up 6 runs in 2 innings of relief for the Snappers. Right fielder Jack Meggs drew a walk and doubled for Beloit’s only extra-base hit in the loss.
