CALIFORNIA LEAGUE  (High-A)

San Jose Giants    3

Stockton Ports   10

WP: Tomasovich 2-1 / 3.18

HR: Diaz (9), Chavez (3), Rosa (2)

Prospect Of The Game:

First Baseman Viosergy Rosa

(2 for 3 / Home Run / Double / Walk / 3 RBIs)

First baseman Viosergy Rosa helped Stockton snap its four-game losing streak on Friday. Rosa left the A’s organization as a minor league free agent in the offseason and ended up playing in the Mexican League before recently signing a minor league deal with the A’s and starting play with the Ports on Wednesday. On Friday, the 28-year-old minor league veteran hit a three-run homer, doubled, drew a walk and scored 3 runs. And in his first 3 games for Stockton, Rosa has gone 6 for 12 with 2 home runs, 2 doubles and 6 RBIs. Third baseman Edwin Diaz also drilled a three-run drive in the game, while designated hitter Santiago Chavez singled and slugged a solo shot, and left fielder Luke Persico doubled, drew a walk and drove in a pair for the Ports. Starter Wyatt Marks allowed 3 runs over 4 1/3 frames, while LHP Andrew Tomasovich tossed 1 2/3 scoreless innings in relief to secure his 2nd win for Stockton. In other news, Ports players recently adopted a stray kitten who now calls the Stockton clubhouse home, and the baseball-friendly feline has since been dubbed “Clubbie.” Here’s a couple of photographs of Clubbie courtesy of catcher Collin Theroux. We’ll be sharing more photos from the life of Clubbie in the coming days…

Prospect Of The Game:

Shortstop Jorge Mateo

(4 for 6 / 2 Home Runs / 3 RBIs / 3 Runs / Stolen Base)

In the completion of a suspended game from May 3, Nashville notched another win, though the victory didn’t count as part of the team’s current winning streak. The game was originally suspended after eight innings with the Sounds holding an eight-run lead, so the final frame was all that was left to be played on Friday, and it was fairly uneventful. Each team sent three batters to the plate in the 9th inning, and the game ended with Nashville notching a 14-6 win. All of the offensive damage occurred back in May, with shortstop Jorge Mateo collecting 4 hits, including a pair of home runs, stealing a base and driving in 3, while right fielder Anthony Garcia homered twice and drove in 5 for the Sounds. Starter James Naile allowed 5 runs over 4 frames, while RHP Emilio Pagan pitched 2 perfect innings in relief to pick up the win, despite the fact that Pagan is currently on the A’s roster.

Second baseman Franklin Barreto singled, doubled and also homered for the second straight day, while center fielder Dustin Fowler had 2 hits, including a triple, and drove in a run, and first baseman Steve Lombardozzi and right fielder Boog Powell had a pair of hits apiece for the Sounds.
