One night after Stockton clinched the California League North Division first-half title, Ports pitcher Brian Howard came within one strike of throwing a complete-game shutout for Stockton. Howard shut out San Jose through the first 8 frames before surrendering a home run with two outs in the top of the 9th. On the night, the 6-foot-9 righty allowed just 1 run on 4 hits while striking out 7 over 8 2/3 innings to earn his league-leading 7th win for Stockton. RHP Brendan Butler came in to notch the final out in the 9th for the Ports. Left fielder Luke Persico had 3 hits, including a triple, and drove in 2 runs, while shortstop Brallan Perez singled twice and scored twice. Designated hitter Jason Goldstein doubled and scored a run, and second baseman Nate Mondou singled and drove in a pair for the Ports.

The RockHounds won their second straight over Frisco on Tuesday to see their record return to an even .500. RHP Kyle Friedrichs turned in his third straight quality start for Midland, allowing 3 runs, just 1 earned, on 5 hits over 7 frames to earn his 5th win for the Hounds. And Friedrichs is now 3-0 with a 2.14 ERA over his last 3 starts for Midland. LHP Cody Stull got one out in the 8th inning but exited with a possible ankle injury, and RHP Nolan Blackwood got the final five outs for the RockHounds to record his 7th save. Shortstop Eli White had a big day at the plate, collecting 3 hits, including a home run and a double, and drove in 4 runs, while right fielder Tyler Marincov hit his team-leading 12th home run. Second baseman Richie Martin doubled, singled twice and scored twice, and left fielder Seth Brown had 3 hits, including a double, and drove in 3 runs for the RockHounds.

Second Baseman Trace Loehr

Second baseman Trace Loehr had a big game to help Beloit best Peoria in the opener of their three-games series on Tuesday. Loehr singled, doubled and drove in a career-high 4 runs, while right fielder Mickey McDonald had 3 hits, including a double, drew a walk and swiped a pair of bases, and designated hitter Jesus Lopez collected both a triple and a double for Beloit. Starter Mitchell Jordan allowed 3 runs over 4 2/3 frames and left with the game a 3-3 tie. RHP Heath Bowers pitched 1 1/3 perfect innings to pick up the win, while LHP Ty Damron tossed 2 scoreless innings in relief, and RHP Seth Martinez got the final three outs in the 9th to notch his 8th save for the Snappers.
