LHP Jesus Luzardo delivered one of his best starts of the season to help Midland win and move back within a game of .500 on Monday. The 20-year-old southpaw allowed just 1 unearned run on 3 hits while walking none and striking out 8 over 5 frames to earn his 3rd win for the RockHounds. And Luzardo has now given up just 1 earned run and struck out 16 in 10 innings over his last two starts for Midand. RHPs Joseph Camacho and John Gorman combined to throw 4 scoreless frames in relief for the RockHounds. First baseman Seth Brown singled and slugged a three-run homer, while catcher Sean Murphy walked and tagged a two-run shot to lead Midland’s offense on Monday.

Nashville’s bullpen coughed up a five-run lead as the Sounds suffered their third straight home loss in Music City on Monday. RHP James Naile turned in his team-leading sixth quality start, allowing just 1 run over 6 solid innings for the Sounds. LHP Dean Kiekhefer took over for Naile but gave up 4 runs in the 7th inning. RHP Carlos Ramirez then surrendered 3 more runs in the 8th to suffer the loss. Shortstop Jorge Mateo singled and tripled with the bases loaded to drive in 3 runs, while center fielder BJ Boyd tripled in a run. Second baseman Franklin Barreto had 2 hits, including a double, drove in a run and scored twice, and first baseman Nick Martini singled and walked to extend his on-base streak to 45 consecutive games.

Stockton won its second straight one-run game to run its record to 40-24 and clinch the California League North Division first-half title on Monday. A’s LHP Ryan Buchter made the rehab start for Stockton and allowed 1 hit and 1 walk while throwing 16 pitches, just 7 for strikes, over 1 scoreless inning for the Ports. RHP Parker Dunshee took over in the 2nd and allowed 3 runs and struck out 9 over 6 2/3 innings to earn his 6th win, while LHP Andrew Tomasovich got the final two outs to secure his 2nd save for Stockton. Right fielder Dairon Blanco tripled twice, scored twice and drove in a run, while shortstop Kevin Merrell had 2 hits, drew a walk and drove in a run, and center fielder Boog Powell went 1 for 3, walked, stole a base and drove in a run in his second rehab appearance for the Ports. In other news, Blanco, Merrell and Dunshee, along with pitchers Brian Howard and Miguel Romero, outfielder Skye Bolt, infielder Nate Mondou and catcher Jonah Heim, were all named to the California League North Division All-Star squad on Monday.

LHP Jared Poche turned in one of his best starts of the season for the Snappers, allowing 2 runs on just 4 hts while walking none and striking out 5 over 7 frames. But a wild pitch and a sacrifice fly helped an unearned run score off reliever Nick Highberger, who suffered his 2nd loss as the Snappers lost the first game of Monday’s doubleheader. Center fielder Austin Beck had 2 hits, including a double, and drove in the tying run in the 7th, while second baseman Trace Loehr singled, doubled and scored twice. First baseman Jack Meggs singled twice and drove in a run, and third baseman Ryan Gridley went 0 for 4 in his season debut for the Snappers.

RHP Jean Ruiz turned in a solid start, allowing 2 runs, just 1 earned, while striking out 6 over 5 frames, but he still ended up suffering the loss as the Snappers were swept in Monday’s doubleheader. Center fielder Mickey McDonald doubled, walked and scored a run, while catcher Jordan Devencenzi had a pair of hits, and first baseman Hunter Hargrove singled in the Snappers’ sole run in the loss.
