The RockHounds came from behind to best the RoughRiders in the opening game of their series on Saturday. With his team down by three runs, cacher Sean Murphy singled in the RockHounds’ first run in the 4th inning, then homered to provide the Hounds’ second run in the 6th inning, and singled in an insurance run in the 9th after his team had taken the lead. Murphy currently leads all RockHounds regulars with a .543 slugging percentage and leads all A’s minor leaguers with 29 extra-base hits. Center fielder Tyler Ramirez had 3 hits, including a triple, and singled in the tying run in the top of the 7th, while designated hitter Brett Siddall singled in the winning run in the 8th, and left fielder Brett Vertigan singled, doubled, walked and scored a run for the RockHounds. Starter Joel Seddon surrendered 4 runs over 6 frames, while RHP Trey Cochran-Gill tossed 1 2/3 scoreless innings in relief to pick up the win, and RHP Nolan Blackwood got the final four outs for the RockHounds to register his 6th save.

The Sounds were shut out on just three hits to see their record fall back to an even .500 on Saturday. Left fielder Anthony Garcia and second baseman Franklin Barreto both singled, and third baseman Sheldon Neuse doubled for the Sounds’ only extra-base hit in the loss. Veteran RHP Edwin Jackson, who was signed to a minor league deal by the A’s, was outstanding in his Nashville debut, allowing 1 run on just 3 hits while striking out 7 over 6 innings of work, but he still ended up being saddled with the loss. Meanwhile, Sounds RHP Chris Bassitt was recalled by the A’s, while outfielder/first baseman Nick Martini was sent back to the Sounds, and catcher Jason Goldstein was reassigned to Stockton on Saturday.

Stockton was shut out on seven hits to suffer its second straight loss to Visalia on Saturday. Right fielder Luis Barrera collected a pair of hits, while left fielder Skye Bolt doubled for Stockton’s only extra-base hit in the loss. Center fielder Boog Powell, who’s been on the disabled list since early April with a knee injury, went 0 or 3 with a strikeout in his first rehab appearance with the Ports. Starter Dustin Hurlbutt allowed 3 runs, 2 earned, over 5 1/3 frames and suffered his 2nd loss, while LHP Andew Tomasovich gave up 1 run in 1 2/3 innings of relief, and RHP Sam Sheehan and LHP Will Gilbert each tossed 1 scoreless inning for Stockton. Meanwhile, catcher Jason Goldstein was sent back to Stockton from the Sounds, and RHP Peter Bayer, who was acquired from Tampa Bay in exchange for RHP Wilmer Font, was assigned to Stockton on Saturday.

Beloit bested Burlington in the second game of their four-games series on Saturday. Second baseman Jesus Lopez homered to tie the game in the 3rd inning, while designated hitter Skyler Weber drew a pair of walks, drove in a run, stole a base and scored the go-ahead run in the 3rd. Shortstop Nick Allen singled twice and stole a base, and catcher Jordan Devencenzi doubled in a run for Beloit. Starter Xavier Altamirano allowed 2 runs over 4 frames, while RHP Jesus Zambrano threw 2 1/3 scoreless innings in relief to pick up his 6th win, and RHP Seth Martinez tossed 2 2/3 scoreless innings to secure his team-leading 7th save for the Snappers.
