The Ports prevailed in 12-innings to help keep their playoff hopes alive on Wednesday. Left fielder Brett Siddall hit his 20th home run to tie the game in the 8th inning and then scored the winning run on designated hitter Mikey White’s RBI double in the bottom of the 12th as Stockton won in a walk-off. Siddall also singled in the game, and his .303 batting average and .500 slugging percentage are both bests among all current Ports batters. First baseman Seth Brown walked 4 times, scored a run and stole a base, while third baseman Branden Cogswell drew 3 walks and singled in a pair of runs for the Ports. Starter Logan Shore allowed 3 runs over 7 innings of work, while RHP Kyle Friedrichs pitched 4 perfect frames in relief, and RHP Nolan Blackwood tossed a scoreless top of the 12th to pick up his 1st win for the Ports.

The Sounds went down to defeat in 11 innings to suffer their third straight loss on Wednesday. Shortstop Franklin Barreto had another big night at the plate, going 3 for 3 with a pair of walks while also stealing a base and driving in a run, and the 21-year-old is now hitting .486 with 5 walks and 8 RBIs over his last 8 games for Nashville. Starter Zach Neal allowed 3 runs over 7 innings of work, while LHP Felix Doubront pitched 2 2/3 perfect innings in relief, but RHP Lou Trivino gave up the winning run in the top of the 11th to suffer his 2nd loss for the Sounds.

After being shut out over the first seven innings, the RockHounds put three runs on the board over the final two frames but still came up short to suffer their fifth straight loss on Wednesday. First baseman Viosergy Rosa hit his team-leading 17th home run, a 2-run shot in the 8th, to extend his league-leading RBI total to 106, while shortstop Jorge Mateo and second baseman Max Schrock had a pair of hits apiece for the Hounds. Starter Heath Fillmyer allowed 2 runs over 5 2/3 frames to take his 5th loss for Midland.

After sweeping a doubleheader on Monday and then taking Tuesday off, not much went right for the Snappers on Wednesday as they were shut out on just 4 hits to suffer their ninth loss in their last twelve games. Starter Seth Martinez allowed 4 runs over 6 frames to take his 10th loss for Beloit, but RHP Jesus Zambrano pitched 2 perfect innings in relief for the Snappers. Shortstop Edwin Diaz, second baseman Jesus Lopez, third baseman Trace Loehr and center fielder JaVon Shelby all singled in the loss.

 

NEW YORK-PENN LEAGUE  (Class-A Short-Season)

19-year-old LHP Jesus Luzardo turned in a strong start for the Lake Monsters in the first game of Wednesday’s doubleheader, allowing just 1 run and striking out 6 over 5 frames to earn his 1st victory for Vermont. RHP Heath Donica tossed 2 scoreless innings in relief to pick up the save. Third baseman Will Toffey hit a 2-run homer, while shortstop Ryan Gridley slugged a solo shot as both players notched their first pro homers on Wednesday.

LHP Ivan Andueza delivered another solid start in the second game of Wednesday’s doubleheader, allowing 3 runs and striking out 8 over 6 innings of work, but he still ended up suffering the loss for the Lake Monsters. Vermont was shut out on just 4 hits. Shortstop Jesus Lage, second baseman Ryan Gridley, third baseman Javier Godard and left fielder Logan Farrar all singled in the loss.

 

ARIZONA LEAGUE  (Rookie Short-Season)

First Baseman Alonzo Medina

(2 for 4 / Home Run / 3 RBIs)

18-year-old Dominican first baseman Alonzo Medina singled, homered and drove in 3 runs, while center fielder Ben Spitznagel had 2 hits, including a double, and scored a run. Third baseman Jake Lumley singled and drove in 2 runs, and catcher Santis Sanchez and shortstop Nick Allen had a pair of hits apiece for the A’s. Starter Chris Kohler gave up 2 runs over 3 innings of work, while RHP Zack Kelly allowed 1 run in 3 innings of relief to pick up the win, and LHP Pat Krall threw 3 scoreless frames to earn the save on Wednesday.
