Five home runs helped the Sounds win a slugfest in Reno on Saturday. First baseman Matt Olson reached base 4 times, collecting 3 hits, including his 23rd home run, while also drawing a walk, and Olson has now gone 7 for 18 with 3 home runs and 5 RBIs over his last 4 games for the Sounds. Center fielder Yairo Munoz singled, homered and drove in 4 runs, while third baseman Renato Nunez doubled, walked, hit his minor-league-leading 29th home run and drove in a pair. Shortstop Franklin Barreto singled and homered, and designated hitter Chris Carter doubled, walked and hit a 2-run homer for the Sounds. Starter Ben Bracewell gave up 8 runs over 3 2/3 innings of work, while LHP Felix Doubront tossed 1 2/3 scoreless innings in relief to notch his 2nd win for Nashville. Meanwhile, former Sounds catcher Ryan Lavarnway was designated for assignment by the A’s, and Nashville RHPs Jesse Hahn and Tucker Healy were both placed on the disabled list on Saturday. Hahn suffered a lat strain while Healy is dealing with a bicep strain.

Pitcher Heath Fillmyer

(7 IP / 1 H / 2 ER / 2 BB / 4 K)

 

RHP Heath Fillmyer turned in another strong start for the RockHounds. The 23-year-old allowed just 1 hit, a home run that came after a leadoff walk in the 5th, and that was all the scoring that San Antonio would do over Fillmyer’s 7 innings of work on Saturday. Shortstop Jorge Mateo, who also doubled in the game, singled in a run in the 8th, and third baseman Jordan Tarsovich singled in the tying run for the RockHounds in the 9th to send the game to extra innings. But RHP Aaron Kurcz surrendered 2 runs in the top of the 14th to take the loss as Midland dropped its third straight to San Antonio on Saturday. First baseman Viosergy Rosa had 4 hits, and RHPs Sam Bragg and Tyler Sturdevant each threw 3 scoreless innings of relief for the RockHounds.

RHP Angel Duno delivered an outstanding start on Saturday, allowing just 1 unearned run and striking out 8 over 6 innings of work, and the 23-year-old now has an ERA of 1.00 over his last 5 starts for Stockton. But LHP Brandon Marsonek gave up 2 runs in 2 innings of relief to take the loss. First baseman Seth Brown had 2 hits, including a double, and catcher Argenis Raga singled in Stockton’s sole run as the Ports dropped their third straight to Visalia on Saturday.

 

MIDWEST LEAGUE  (Class-A)

The Snappers were no-hit until the 9th inning, when a pair of singles followed by designated hitter Kyle Nowlin’s 2-run double put an end to the shutout as well. RHP Matt Milburn had a rare rough start, surrendering 6 runs on 10 hits over 5 frames to suffer to his 9th loss for the Snappers. Meanwhile, LHP Ty Damron was activated from the disabled list, and infielder Trace Loehr landed on the DL on Saturday.

Starter Parker Dunshee threw 3 shutout frames to extend his scoreless-innings streak to 24 on Saturday. RHP Wyatt Marks gave up 2 runs in 4 innings of work, while LHP Logan Salow tossed 2 scoreless innings in relief. Right fielder Greg Deichmann, who’d also singled in the game, doubled in the tying run in the top of the 9th for Vermont, but LHP Josh Reagan surrendered the winning run in the bottom of the 10th to take the loss for the Lake Monsters.

Designated hitter Lazaro Armenteros had 2 hits, including a double, while second baseman Marcos Brito singled twice and drove in a run for the A’s.
