RHP Jharel Cotton made an impressive rehab start for the Sounds on Tuesday, allowing just 2 hits and striking out 9 over 6 shutout innings to notch his 3rd win of the season for Nashville. After making a pair of rehab appearances for Stockton, RHP Bobby Wahl made his first rehab appearance for the Sounds on Tuesday and gave up 1 run in 2/3 of an inning of relief. Right fielder Mark Canha had a huge night at the plate, collecting 5 hits, including a pair of home runs, while driving in 4 runs. First baseman Matt Olson belted his 20th home run, a 2-run blast, while left fielder Renato Nunez, slugged his league-leading 26th home run, a solo shot, and shortstop Franklin Barreto had 3 hits and drove in a run for Nashville. Meanwhile, A’s RHP Chris Bassitt was activated from the disabled list and assigned to the Sounds on Tuesday.

RHP Heath Fillmyer turned in his second straight quality start to help the RockHounds win their fifth straight on Tuesday. The 23-year-old allowed 2 runs over 7 innings of work to earn his 6th win for Midland. Center fielder B.J. Boyd and first baseman Viosergy Rosa each had 2 hits and drove in a pair of runs for the RockHounds. Meanwhile right fielder J.P. Sportman left the game after being hit in the hand with a pitch in the 5th inning.

RHP Angel Duno failed to allow an earned run for his third straight start on Tuesday. The 23-year-old gave up just 1 unearned run on 4 hits while walking none and striking out 6 to earn his 8th win for Stockton. RHP Armando Ruiz tossed 2 scoreless innings in relief, and RHP Nolan Blackwood pitched a perfect 9th to pick up his 11th save for the Ports. Right fielder Seth Brown doubled twice and drove in a run for Stockton. And in other news, Ports play-by-play man Zack Bayrouty reported that 23-year-old Cuban RHP Norge Ruiz was suspended for 10 games and fined by the California League for doctoring the ball after he was found to have a foreign substance on his left arm in Monday’s match.

This year’s 7th-round draft pick for the A’s, RHP Parker Dunshee, turned in another solid start for Vermont, throwing 4 scoreless frames, and the 22-year-old has now tossed a total of 18 1/3 scoreless innings for the Lake Monsters. 13th-round RHP Wyatt Marks allowed 1 run in 3 2/3 innings of relief to earn his 1st victory for Vermont. 4th-round third baseman Will Toffey doubled twice and drove in 3 runs, while 19-year-old Venezuelan second baseman Jesus Lage singled, doubled and drove in a pair, and 11th-round shortstop Ryan Gridley and 16th-round left fielder Payton Squier had 3 hits apiece for Vermont.

The AZL A’s were shut out on just 4 hits on Tuesday. 18-year-old Cuban left fielder Lazaro Armenteros doubled, while 18-year-old Dominican first baseman Alonzo Medina had a pair of hits and a walk, and 20-year-old Cuban right fielder Enrry Pantoja singled and walked in the loss. 19-year-old LHP Jesus Luzardo, acquired from the Nationals in the Ryan Madson/Sean Doolittle deal, allowed just 1 run while striking out 4 over 4 innings of work, but he still ended up taking the loss on Tuesday. Meanwhile, rehabbing RHP Raul Alcantara pitched 2 perfect innings in relief for the A’s.
