The Lake Monsters won the second game of Tuesday’s twinbill to secure a split of the doubleheader. This year’s 2nd-round draft pick for the A’s, designated hitter Greg Deichmann, who made his debut in Tuesday’s first game, was the hitting star of the second game. The 22-year-old out of LSU singled, tripled, walked and drove in a pair of runs for Vermont. 16th-round left fielder Payton Squier doubled in a pair, while 19-year-old Venezuelan second baseman Jesus Lage tripled and scored, and 21-year-old Venezuelan third baseman Javier Godard singled, doubled and drove in a run for the Lake Monsters. This year’s 8th-round pick, 6’9″ RHP Brian Howard, made the start and threw 3 shutout innings, while RHP Branden Kelliher tossed 2 scoreless frames to earn his 2nd victory for Vermont. Meanwhile, Lake Monsters infielder Jesus Lopez was promoted to the Snappers, and AZL A’s outfielder Logan Farrar was reassigned to Vermont on Tuesday.

This year’s second overall draft pick for the A’s, shortstop Kevin Merrell, was the hitting star in the first game of Tuesday’s doubleheader. The 21-year-old collected 3 of Vermont’s 6 hits while swiping a pair of bases and driving in a run. Catcher Iolana Akau doubled for the Lake Monsters’ only extra-base hit of the game. 22-year-old Venezuelan LHP Ivan Andueza allowed 3 runs over 6 innings of work to suffer his 1st loss for the Lake Monsters.
