The Ports prevailed for the third straight night with the help of hot-hitting second baseman Nate Mondou on Friday. Last year’s 13th-round draft pick for the A’s collected 4 hits, including 2 triples and a double, while also drawing a walk and driving in a pair of runs. The 22-year-old is now 8 for 12 with 3 walks, 3 extra-base hits and 5 RBIs over his last 3 games and is batting .386 since being promoted to the Ports early last week. Shortstop Eli White walked and hit a 2-run homer, while catcher Argenis Raga singled, doubled and drove in a run. 23-year-old Cuban RHP Norge Ruiz looked strong in his second start for Stockton, allowing just 1 run over 6 innings of work to earn his 1st win, while RHP Brandon Bailey gave up 1 run in 3 innings of relief to pick up the save for the Ports.

RHP Ben Bracwell, starting in place of RHP Chris Smith who’s set to make the start for Oakland on Saturday, had an outstanding outing for the Sounds on Friday. The 26-year-old allowed just 1 run over 6 innings of work and exited with his team up by a score of 2-1. Yairo Munoz, making his fifth start this season in center field, belted his first Triple-A homer in the bottom of the 4th inning to put Nashville on the board and then singled in the Sounds’ second run in the 5th to give his team the lead. But RHP Tucker Healy surrendered the tying run in the top of the 7th. Then, with the game tied in the bottom of the 9th, second baseman Joey Wendle doubled and then scored on right fielder Mark Canha‘s RBI single to give the Sounds the walk-off win on Friday. Wendle and Canha both had 2 hits in the game, and LHP Patrick Schuster picked up the win after getting the final two outs in the top of the 9th for Nashville.

Second baseman Max Schrock had 3 hits, including a double, walked and drove in a pair of runs to help the RockHounds record the win and avoid being swept in Springfield on Friday. Designated hitter J.P. Sportman singled twice and doubled, while third baseman Branden Cogswell doubled, walked and scored a run, and center fielder B.J. Boyd singled in a pair of runs for the RockHounds. RHP Joel Seddon, starting in place of LHP A.J. Puk who’s set to pitch in next week’s Futures Game, allowed 3 runs over 4 1/3 frames, while RHP Aaron Kurcz tossed 2 scoreless innings in relief to register his 1st win for Midland, and RHP Carlos Navas got the final six outs for the RockHounds to record the save.

The Snappers lost their fourth straight on Friday and have managed to push a total of just 2 runs across the plate over those four defeats. Right fielder Luis Barrera singled and stole second base to become Beloit’s only base runner to get into scoring position over the first 8 innings on Friday. Starter Kyle Twomey struggled, allowing 5 runs, 4 earned, on 7 hits and 4 walks over 3 2/3 frames to suffer his 2nd loss for the Snappers, while RHP Mitchell Jordan tossed 1 1/3 scoreless innings in his first appearance since returning from the disabled list, and RHP Jesus Zambrano threw 3 scoreless innings in the loss.

Vermont notched its fourth straight victory, even though it took 15 innings on Friday. The game was scoreless through the first 14 frames. 18-year-old Panamanian RHP Abdiel Mendoza turned in an impressive start, striking out 7 over 7 shutout innings for the Lake Monsters. 20-year-old Colombian RHP Jean Ruiz and this year’s 6th-round draft pick for the A’s, LHP Logan Salow, both tossed 2 scoreless innings, while RHPs Branden Kelliher and Marc Berube both threw 1 scoreless inning in relief. Then, with two outs in the bottom of the 15th, this year’s 10th-round pick, right fielder Jack Meggs, singled for the third time in the game to drive home the winning run as the Lake Monsters won in a 15-inning walk-off on Friday. Infielder Javier Godard, who had 2 hits in the game, picked up the win after tossing 2 scoreless innings of relief for Vermont.

 

In Other News…

The A’s announced on Friday that they’d come to terms with 17 international players from 7 different countries. Most of the players hail from Venezuela and the Dominican Republic, with prospects from Mexico, Panama, Colombia, Curacao and the Bahamas as well. A’s assistant general manager Dan Feinstein said, “It’s a credit to our international scouts in Latin America and beyond that we were able to identify this promising class.” The signings include pitchers Gabriel Delgado, Carlos Leandro and Edwin Rojas, catchers Geykler Davila, Hansen Lopez and Jose Mujica, outfielders Albert Avila, Jose Bonilla, Marshall Cantillo, Kelvin Garcia and Davonn Mackey, and infielders Givaine Basilia, Jose Pastrono, Jhoan Paulino, Dereck Salom, Saul Sanchez and Joshwan Wright.
