RHP Heath Fillmyer helped the Hounds snap a four-game skid on Tuesday. 2014’s 5th-round draft pick for the A’s allowed just 1 run while striking out 6 over 5 innings of work to earn his 5th win, and the 23-year-old has now compiled a 1.84 ERA over his last 5 starts for Midland. Center fielder B.J. Boyd singled, doubled, stole a base and drove in a pair, while catcher Sean Murphy doubled, walked and drove in 3 runs for the RockHounds.

The Sounds suffered a one-run, late-inning loss for the second straight night on Tuesday. RHP Chris Jensen had a rough start for the Sounds, giving up 5 runs over 4 2/3 frames, but Nashville’s bats helped take him off the hook. Right fielder Mark Canha hit a 3-run homer in the 1st inning, while shortstop Marcus Semien slugged a solo shot in the 2nd. Designated hitter Renato Nunez notched his league-leading 22nd home run in the top of the 5th, and the Sounds were up by a run heading to the 6th. LHP Patrick Schuster then surrendered 3 runs in the bottom of the 6th, but Nunez doubled in a pair of runs in the top of the 7th to tie the game. A throwing error by Semien then helped lead to an unearned run in the bottom of the 8th as Colorado claimed victory on Tuesday. RHP Tucker Healy was charged with 1 unearned run in 2 innings of relief to suffer his 2nd loss for the Sounds.

LHP Evan Manarino had his second straight shaky start for Stockton, surrendering 4 runs on 9 hits over just 3 2/3 innings to suffer his 4th loss for the Ports. Catcher Argenis Raga singled in Stockton’s sole run in the 7th, while outfielders Brett Siddall and Skye Bolt had a pair of hits apiece for the Ports.

Starter Joseph Camacho allowed 1 run over 3 innings of work to suffer his 2nd loss for the Snappers, while RHP Xavier Altamirano gave up 4 runs in 5 innings of relief for Beloit. The Snappers scored just 1 run on 4 hits on Tuesday. Left fielder Luis Barrera singled, tripled, walked and stole a base, while right fielder JaVon Shelby had a pair of singles, and center fielder Mike Martin walked, stole a pair of bases and scored the Snappers’ sole run in the loss.

This year’s second overall draft pick for the A’s, shortstop Kevin Merrell, had a big night at the plate, collecting 3 hits, including a double, stealing a base, driving in a run and scoring twice for the Lake Monsters. And the 21-year-old is now hitting .346 over his first 6 pro games. 7th-round RHP Parker Dunshee turned in a solid start, allowing just 1 hit over 3 scoreless frames, but RHP Marc Berube gave up 4 runs, 3 earned, in 2 1/3 innings of relief. 6th-round RHP Logan Salow tossed 2 1/3 scoreless innings to pick up his 1st win, while 19th-round RHP Michael Danielak notched the final four outs for Vermont to secure his 1st save. In other news, 8th-round RHP Brian Howard, 13th-round RHP Wyatt Marks and 15th-round LHP Josh Reagan were all added to the Lake Monsters roster on Tuesday.

The AZL A’s prevailed despite making 6 errors on Tuesday. LHP Chris Kohler turned in his third straight shaky start for the A’s, allowing 3 runs, 2 earned, in 2 1/3 innings of work on Tuesday. 19-year-old Dominican RHP Jose Mora was outstanding in relief, striking out 4 over 2 2/3 scoreless frames, while 32nd-round RHP Caleb Evans tossed 2 scoreless innings in relief. This year’s 34th-round pick for the A’s, second baseman Justin Jones, belted his 1st home run in the 4th inning, while 17-year-old Dominican shortstop Yerdel Vargas drove in another run with a ground out, and 18-year-old Cuban left fielder Lazaro Armenteros doubled in a run to tie the game in the 7th. Then in the top of the 10th, Armenteros was hit by a pitch and eventually came around to score the go-ahead run on 33rd-round third baseman Jake Lumley‘s RBI single, and Vargas then singled in a second run in the frame. 21st-round RHP Heath Donica tossed 2 scoreless innings to earn the win, and 24th-round RHP Slater Lee got the final three outs in the bottom of the 10th, despite being charged with an unearned run, to pick up the save.
