The Sounds were shut out on just 2 hits in the completion of a game that was suspended after 3 scoreless innings on April 30. RHP Zach Neal was the game’s original starter, but RHP Chris Smith took the mound when play resumed on Monday. The 36-year-old was outstanding, allowing just 1 run over 6 innings of work, but he still ended up suffering his 2nd loss for the Sounds. Third baseman Jermaine Curtis and second baseman Joey Wendle notched Nashville’s only hits in the loss.

The Sounds were shut out for a second time in Monday’s second game, this time on 4 hits. RHP Dustin Hurlbutt was promoted from Stockton to make the start and surrendered 5 runs over 3 innings of work to suffer the loss. RHP Zach Neal allowed 1 run in 4 innings of relief for the Sounds. Shortstop Melvin Mercedes, second baseman Joey Wendle, third baseman Jermaine Curtis and designated hitter Franklin Barreto all singled in the loss.

Despite a few bad breaks in the field, LHP A.J. Puk was solid in his Double-A debut for Midland on Monday. The 22-year-old allowed 3 runs on just 4 hits while walking 2 and striking out 7 over 7 innings of work to suffer the loss for the RockHounds. RHP Tyler Sturdevant tossed 1 scoreless inning of relief in his first appearance for Midland, while second baseman Max Schrock had a pair of hits and drove in the RockHounds’ only run, and left fielder B.J. Boyd and third baseman Yairo Munoz each singled twice and stole a base in the loss. In other news, RockHounds RHP Lou Trivino was reassigned to the Sounds on Monday, while RHP Brett Graves was placed on the disabled list with a lower leg injury, and former Midland outfielder James Harris, who had been playing for Stockton this season, was released by the organization.
