PACIFIC COAST LEAGUE  (Triple-A)

WP – Walter 2-1 / 2.96

Prospect Of The Game:

RHP Corey Walter turned in another outstanding start for the Sounds on Wednesday. 2014’s 28th-round draft pick for the A’s gave up just 1 run over 6 innings of work to earn his 2nd win for Nashville, and the 24-year-old has now allowed 1 earned run or less in three of his last four starts for the Sounds. First baseman Matt Olson homered in his first game back in Nashville, while right fielder Mark Canha also slugged a solo shot for the Sounds. Left fielder Matt McBride singled, tripled and drove in 3 runs, and designated hitter Bruce Maxwell singled in his first at-bat since his return from the disabled list. Olson returned to Nashville when RHP Daniel Gossett from promoted to the A’s on Wednesday. Though nothing official has yet been announced, Susan Slusser reported in the Chronicle that third baseman Matt Chapman, who was not in the Sounds lineup on Wednesday, was set to join the A’s on Thursday. And it’s looking likely that RHP Frankie Montas, who’s appeared strictly out of the bullpen so far this season, will start one of the three games that Nashville is scheduled to play this weekend.

And despite suffering his 5th loss, LHP A.J. Puk turned in another impressive start for Stockton. Last year’s top draft pick for the A’s allowed just 1 run while striking out 11 over 6 2/3 innings of work, and the 22-year-old has now notched a total of 29 strikeouts over his last 16 1/3 frames for the Ports. LHP Jared Lyons was charged with 1 unearned run over 1 1/3 innings, while RHP Joey Wagman surrendered 1 run in 1 inning of relief for Stockton.
