RHP Daniel Gossett delivered his best start of the season on Monday, allowing just 4 hits while walking none and striking out 6 over a career-high 8 innings of work to earn his 2nd win for the Sounds. And the A’s 2nd-round draft pick in 2014 has now allowed just 4 earned runs in 19 innings over his last 3 starts. RHP Aaron Kurcz gave up a 3-run homer in the bottom of the 9th for Nashville. First baseman Matt Olson homered for the second straight night, belting a 3-run blast in the 3rd inning and singling in another run in the 5th, while third baseman Matt Chapman slugged a solo shot in the 4th, and second baseman Joey Wendle drilled a 2-run drive in the 7th to help the Sounds win their second straight over Sacramento. In other news, Nashville manager Ryan Christenson told Sounds play-by-play man Jeff Hem on Monday’s pre-game show that he didn’t expect catcher Bruce Maxwell, who’s currently on the disabled list with an oblique injury, to be back before mid-June at the earliest.

Prospect Of The Game:

Pitcher A.J. Puk

(5 1/3 IP / 0 H / 1 ER / 4 BB / 7 K / Win)

LHP A.J. Puk no-hit Lake Elsinore through 5 1/3 innings to earn his 2nd win for Stockton on Monday. Last year’s top draft pick for the A’s struck out 7 while walking 4 and left the game with one out in the 6th and a man on first. LHP Will Gilbert replaced Puk on the mound and surrendered a home run to the first batter he faced to tag Puk with 1 earned run in the outing. Earlier in the day, outfielder James Harris, who had been on the disabled list for the RockHounds, was activated and reassigned to Stockton. And the Oakland native had a big night in his season debut, collecting 4 hits, including a home run and a double, while designated hitter Brett Siddall singled and homered for the second straight night, hitting a 2-run shot in the 2nd. Third baseman Mikey White doubled in a run, and catcher Sean Murphy singled, drew a pair of walks and drove in a run to help Stockton win its third straight on Monday. And with Harris’s addition to the roster, RHP Trey Cochran-Gill returned to extended spring training in Arizona after making just one appearance for Stockton.

MIDWEST LEAGUE  (Class-A)

Wisconsin Timber Rattlers  2

Beloit Snappers               12

HR – Barrera (1)

Prospect Of The Game:

Pitcher Dakota Chalmers

(5 IP / 1 H / 1 ER / 4 BB / 8 K / Win)

A rain delay shuffled the Snappers’ pitching plans on Monday, and reliever Xavier Altamirano ended up making the start, tossing 2 scoreless innings for Beloit. RHP Dakota Chalmers replaced him on the mound and, despite struggling with his control at times, looked strong, striking out 8 and allowing just 1 run (thanks to a bases-loaded balk) on 1 hit and 4 walks over a season-high 5 innings to earn his 2nd win for the Snappers. Luis Barrera belted a 3-run homer for Beloit in the bottom of the 5th to break a 1-1 tie, while first baseman Miguel Mercedes and second baseman Nate Mondou both singled doubled and drove in runs, and right fielder JaVon Shelby had a pair of singles and drove in a pair for the Snappers.
