The Sounds used three home runs to win their second straight against Albuquerque on Saturday. First baseman Matt Olson hit a 2-run homer with two outs in the bottom of the 1st to give his team an early lead, then slugged his second 2-run shot of the night in the 6th. Olson also singled but was left stranded in the 8th, and the 23-year-old is now 5 for 15 with 3 home runs over his last 4 games for the Sounds. Left fielder Renato Nunez belted a 2-run blast of his own in the 3rd. It was his team-leading 9th round-tripper of the season for Nashville. RHP Daniel Mengden allowed just one base runner through the first three innings of his second rehab start for the Sounds. But he then allowed a pair of runs before exiting with two outs in the 4th and ultimately ended up being charged with 2 earned runs on 3 hits and 3 walks while striking out 5 over 3 2/3 innings of work. RHP Chris Jensen picked up the win after allowing 1 run in 1 1/3 innings of relief, while RHP John Axford pitched a perfect 6th inning in his first rehab appearance for the Sounds. And working on the back end of what was basically a tandem start, RHP Raul Alcantara threw 3 scoreless frames to notch his 1st save for Nashville. Meanwhile, outfielder Jaff Decker cleared waivers and was sent back to the Sounds on Saturday.

Midland went down to defeat on Saturday despite another strong start by RHP Corey Walter. The 24-year-old threw 5 scoreless frames and left the game with the RockHounds up by a run. 2014’s 28th-round draft pick has now allowed just 1 earned run over his last 14 innings of work. LHP Cody Stull followed Walter on the mound and surrendered 6 runs in 2 innings of relief to suffer his 2nd loss for the Hounds. Midland managed 1 run on just 4 hits on Saturday. Designated hitter Yairo Munoz doubled and scored the RockHounds’ only run of the game. And in other news, Joe Bennie, who’d primarily been serving as a designated hitter for the Hounds this year, requested and was granted his release on Saturday. Bennie told A’s Farm, “I’m nothing but thankful and very appreciative for the opportunity the A’s gave me. With that said, I’m very excited for the next step in my baseball career.”

Starter Angel Duno had another shaky outing on Saturday, surrendering 5 runs over 4 innings of work to suffer the loss as Stockton dropped its sixth straight. His tandem-pitching partner, RHP Casey Meisner, allowed 3 runs, 2 earned, in 4 innings of relief for the Ports. Stockton had just 6 hits in the loss. Second baseman Josh Vidales, shortstop Eli White and catcher Iolana Akau all doubled, while Vidales and center fielder Skye Bolt both drove in runs for the Ports. RHP Logan Shore is set to take the mound for Stockton on Sunday after tossing 5 no-hit innings in his last outing on Tuesday.

Beloit let a big offensive outburst lead them to victory for the second straight night. After scoring 9 runs on Friday, the Snappers put 10 runs on the board on Saturday. Catcher Collin Theroux and third baseman Edwin Diaz both singled and hit their 5th home runs. Theroux’s was a 2-run blast in the 8th, while Diaz’s was a solo shot in the 6th. Shortstop Trace Loehr collected 3 hits, including a triple, and drove in a run, while right fielder Luis Barrera singled, doubled, walked and drove in a pair, and left fielder Luke Persico had 2 hits, including a double, and drove in 3. Starter Dalton Sawyer allowed just 1 unearned run over 4 innings of work and left the game with a 6-run lead, while RHP Heath Bowers picked up the win after giving up 2 runs in 2 2/3 innings of relief for the Snappers.
