RHP Daniel Gossett turned in his best start of the season for the Sounds, allowing just 1 run while striking out 7 over 6 innings of work to earn his 1st win on Friday. And the 24-year-old has now given up just 3 earned runs and struck out 16 in 16 innings over his last 3 starts. RHP Zach Neal, who’s now working out of the bullpen with Jharel Cotton‘s addition to the rotation, LHP Ross Detwiler and RHP Simon Castro each tossed 1 scoreless inning in relief, with Castro getting the final three outs in the 9th to notch his 3rd save for Nashville. Shortstop Franklin Barreto hit his 5th home run, a 2-run shot, in the 1st to give the Sounds an early lead, and right fielder Chris Parmelee followed with a solo shot in the 2nd. Left fielder Jaycob Brugman collected 3 hits, while center fielder Ryan LaMarre had a pair of singles as the Sounds snapped their four-game losing streak on Friday. In other news, A’s RHP John Axford was sent to Nashville on a rehab assignment and is scheduled to make his first relief appearance on Saturday, while RHP Daniel Mengden is set to make his second rehab start on Saturday for the Sounds.

Boyd also singled in the game to raise his league-leading average to .376, while catcher Argenis Raga collected 3 hits in the game. Starter Brett Graves was off to another good start, tossing 2 1/3 scoreless innings before a blister apparently led to his early exit. RHP Ben Bracewell allowed just 1 run over 3 2/3 innings of relief to earn the win, while RHP Sam Bragg threw 3 scoreless frames to post his 2nd save as the RockHounds won for the ninth time in their last ten games on Friday.

(2 for 4 / Triple / Double / Walk)

Starter A.J. Puk shut out Lancaster on 4 hits through the first 4 innings before surrendering a pair of runs in the 5th, and the 22-year-old would ultimately be charged with 2 runs on 6 hits while walking 1 and striking out 7 over 5 frames to suffer the loss as Stockton dropped its fifth straight on Friday. LHP Jared Lyons allowed another 5 runs, 2 earned, in 1 1/3 innings of relief for the Ports. Center fielder Skye Bolt tripled, doubled and walked, while first baseman Chris Iriart hit his team-leading 6th home run in the loss.

His tandem-pitching partner, RHP Dakota Chalmers, continued his struggle with control issues on Friday, allowing 5 runs on 3 walks and 2 hits in 1 2/3 innings of relief, but RHP Nick Highberger came on to throw 3 scoreless frames and picked up his 1st win for the Snappers. First baseman Luke Persico continued his hot hitting of late, collecting 3 hits, including his 3rd home run, and last year’s 12th-round draft pick for the A’s is now batting a robust .429 over his last 8 games for Beloit. Right fielder JaVon Shelby slugged his 5th home run, while designated hitter Kyle Nowlin singled, doubled, walked and drove in a run, and second baseman Nate Mondou had 2 hits, including a double, stole a base and drove in a pair for the Snappers. And with RHP Brandon Bailey landing on the disabled list, RHP Sam Sheehan, who notched the final out in the 9th, was added to the Snappers’ roster on Friday.
