Prospect Of The Game:

Pitcher Brendan Butler

(6 2/3 IP / 2 H / 0 ER / 1 BB / 5 K / Win)

RHP Brendan Butler has been one of Beloit’s best pitchers so far this season, and he delivered another strong outing on Wednesday, allowing just 1 unearned run over 6 2/3 innings to earn his 1st win for the Snappers. No longer laboring under the innings limit imposed by the tandem-starter system, Butler turned in his longest outing of the season, and he’s now given up just 4 earned runs over his last 31 innings of work. RHP Jesus Zambrano pitched 2 1/3 perfect innings to pick up the save for the Snappers. Catcher Jason Goldstein singled, walked and slugged his 1st home run, while left fielder Luke Persico singled, doubled, walked, drove in a run and stole a base, and designated hitter Kyle Nowlin singled, walked and drove in 2 runs with a pair of sacrifice flies for the Snappers.

Prospect Of The Game:

Outfielder Skye Bolt

(3 for 5 / Triple / Walk / RBI)

After taking a 1-run lead in the top of the 11th inning, Stockton lost in a heartbreaker on Wednesday. LHP Evan Manarino had a rare rough outing, allowing 3 runs over 4 innings of work to give the Ports an early hurdle to have to clear. Right fielder Seth Brown and first baseman Chris Iriart both singled in early runs, while center fielder Skye Bolt, who had 3 hits in the game, tripled in the tying run in the top of the 5th, and second baseman Branden Cogswell singled in the go-ahead run in the top of the 6th. But LHP Will Gilbert gave up 1 run over 3 innings of relief to allow Lake Elsinore to tie the game in the bottom of the 6th. RHP Carlos Navas followed Gilbert on the mound and was outstanding in relief, allowing just 1 hit while striking out 6 over 3 scoreless frames, and the match remained knotted until the top of the 11th. Then, third baseman Mikey White led off the inning with a triple to left, and Bolt drew a walk before Iriart’s sacrifice fly to right brought home the go-ahead run for Stockton. But in the bottom of the 11th, LHP Andrew Tomasovich was brought on to close things out but instead ended up surrendering a 3-run homer with one out to suffer the loss as Stockton dropped its third straight on Wednesday.
