CALIFORNIA LEAGUE  (High-A)

Stockton Ports         0

Lake Elsinore Storm  5

LP – Lyons 1-1 / 2.19

Prospect Of The Game:

Pitcher Logan Shore

(5 IP / 0 H / 0 ER / 2 BB / 4 K)

Last year’s 2nd-round draft pick for the A’s, RHP Logan Shore, turned in an impressive outing for the Ports on Tuesday. The 22-year-old held Lake Elsinore scoreless over 5 no-hit innings and struck out 4 before exiting after throwing 68 pitches, 44 for strikes. It was his longest outing of the season after having worked as part of a two-man pitching tandem in all his previous appearances. Shore has been solid all season for Stockton, putting up a 2.37 ERA over his first 30 1/3 frames for the Ports, and he’s now allowed just 4 earned runs while walking 3 and striking out 20 in his last 18 1/3 innings over his last 5 appearances for Stockton. (You can see our recent interview with Shore here). LHP Jared Lyons took over after Shore’s exit and allowed 1 run in 1 2/3 innings of relief to take the loss, and RHP Nolan Blackwood then surrendered 4 more runs in his 1 inning of work for the Ports. Stockton was shut out on just 4 hits in the game. Catcher Jose Chavez singled, third baseman Mikey White doubled, and shortstop Eli White had a pair of hits for the Ports in the loss.

Prospect Of The Game:

Designated Hitter Matt Olson

(2 for 5 / Home Run)

It was rehab night in Nashville, with LHP Sean Manaea and RHP Chris Bassitt both making 4-inning rehab appearnaces for the Sounds. Manaea started things off by allowing 2 runs, just 1 earned, on 4 hits and 1 walk while striking out 5, and he left with the game a 2-2 tie. Bassitt followed Manaea on the mound and gave up 4 runs on 5 hits and 4 walks while striking out 6. LHP Ross Detwiler and RHP Simon Castro each were charged with an earned run in the 9th, with Detwiler suffering the loss as the Sounds dropped their third straight. Designated hitter Matt Olson and third baseman Matt Chapman hit back-to-back home runs in the 2nd to give the Sounds an early lead. Olson also singled in the game, while center fielder Ryan LaMarre had 3 hits, including a triple, and stole a base, and second baseman Franklin Barreto doubled in a pair of runs to tie the game in the 8th. In other news, the A’s recalled Nashville outfielder Mark Canha on Tuesday, while recent Sounds outfielder Jaff Decker was designated for assignment.

Prospect Of The Game:

First Baseman Viosergy Rosa

(2 for 4 / Double / 2 RBIs)

Starter Grant Holmes allowed 5 runs, 4 earned, while striking out 6 over 5 innings of work to suffer his 2nd loss as the RockHounds snapped their seven-game winning streak on Tuesday. It was the 21-year-old’s longest outing of the season and, over the last three days, three Midland starters (Holmes, James Naile and Brett Graves) have each gone 5 innings for the first time this season since being freed from the restrictions of the tandem-starter system. First baseman Viosergy Rosa singled, doubled and drove in a pair, and he’s now 6 for his last 12 and 14 for his last 29. Second baseman Max Schrock had 2 hits, including a double, and drove in a run, while left fielder Brett Vertigan had a pair of singles in the loss.

Starter Brandon Bailey was solid, allowing just 1 base runner on a single over 3 scoreless innings, while his tandem-pitching partner, RHP Mitchell Jordan, gave up 1 run in 4 innings of relief to suffer his 1st loss for the Snappers.
