The RockHounds clinched their third straight Texas League South Division title by earning their third victory in four games over Corpus Christi on Saturday. 32-year-old LHP Brandon Mann turned in an outstanding start, striking out 6 while throwing 6 1/3 shutout innings to earn the win for Midland. RHPs Trey Cochran-Gill and Jake Sanchez each allowed 1 run in relief for the RockHounds. Third baseman Yairo Munoz and left fielder J.P. Sportman each singled twice, doubled and drove in a run, while right fielder Tyler Marincov walked, scored twice and doubled in a run for the RockHounds. RHP Donn Roach, whom the A’s recently claimed off waivers from Detroit, was solid in his first start for the Sounds, allowing 2 runs, just 1 earned, over 5 innings of work, but he ended up suffering the loss as Oklahoma City tied the best-of-five series 2-2 on Saturday to force a decisive Game #5 showdown on Sunday. RHP Aaron Kurcz gave up 3 runs in 1 inning of relief, while RHP Eduard Santos surrendered 2 runs, and RHP Carlos Navas tossed 2 scoreless innings in the loss. The Sounds managed just 6 hits in the game. Right fielder Josh Rodriguez contributed 3 singles, while third baseman Matt Chapman doubled for Nashville’s only extra-base hit in the loss.
